Position: Environmental Services / Housekeeper Afternoons


Position Purpose

Ensures the provision of a clean environment for our residents and staff, providing high quality services and standards of cleanliness, ensuring compliance with infection control procedures.


Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED diploma
  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
  • Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and perform basic math computations as needed.
  • Previous long-term care experience preferred.


Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Carry out all cleaning duties as directed by the Environmental Services Director according to required department policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that daily and deep cleaning schedules are adhered to.
  • Maintain a high standard of personal presentation and hygiene.
  • Ensure that all cleaning equipment is correctly and safely used and kept in a safe condition.
  • Report any defect to the department director.
  • Practice sensitivity to the privacy and individual needs of the residents.
  • Adhere to infection control policies at all times.
  • Ensure the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
  • Ensure all necessary documentation is completed daily.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned by the Environmental Services Director.


Essential Functions

  • Dust furniture, woodwork, equipment and dust-mops floors. Polish and clean fixtures in rooms and bathrooms.
  • Operate environmental services equipment (e.g., vacuums, floor cleaners, buffers, shampooers, etc.).
  • Wet-mop rooms, halls and other areas; shampoo rugs and furniture.
  • Clean vents, fan fixtures, top of windows, door frames and other high surfaces.
  • Gather and dispose of trash and waste materials using specified bags and containers.
  • Move furniture and other heavy objects as required.
  • Perform terminal cleaning procedures of resident rooms and prepare rooms for new admissions; follow isolation procedures in isolation rooms.
  • Clean and disinfect all fixtures, floors, mirrors, windows, doors and walls of bathrooms.
  • Make supply packs for departments and put linen stacks in carts for distribution.
  • Deliver linen to departments according to pre-established par levels and schedules.
  • Keep work areas neat and orderly, clean equipment and assist with other cleaning duties as assigned.


Additional Tasks

  • Treat all residents with dignity and respect. Promote and protect all residents’ rights.
  • Establish a culture of compliance by adhering to all facility policies and procedures.
  • Comply with standards of business conduct, and state/federal regulations and guidelines.
  • Follow appropriate safety and hygiene measures at all times to protect residents and themselves.
  • Maintain confidentiality of protected health information, including verbal, written, and electronic communications.
  • Report non-compliance with policies, procedures, regulations, or breaches in confidentiality to appropriate personnel.
  • Report any allegations of abuse, neglect, misappropriation of property, exploitation, or mistreatment of residents to supervisor and/or administrator.
  • Protect residents from abuse, and cooperate with all investigations.
  • Report occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and/or hazardous chemicals in accordance with facility policy.
  • Participate in all life safety and emergency drills and trainings. Fulfill responsibilities as assigned during implementation or activation of the facility’s emergency plan.
  • Report work-related injuries and illnesses immediately to supervisor. Follow established infection control policies and procedures.
  • As a condition of employment, complete all assigned training and skills competency.
