The ideal candidate will- Be able to lead a team of talented staff.
- Have facility operation management experience and supervision.
- Have experience with building operational procedures, budgeting, and administrative skills.
- Have the ability to effectively work with and communicate to the public, stakeholders, co-workers, subordinates, and supervisors.
- Have a proven track record of strong leadership with progressive and increasing responsibilities inclusive of team management and accountability.
- Plan, organize, and coordinate a variety of recreation and community service programs as assigned.
- Evaluate facility needs and develop an effective operation plan; develop procedures within areas of responsibility and instructional materials to assist in accomplishing program goals.
- Schedule and train part-time staff in facility operations and customer service to patrons at the recreation counters, as well as by phone and email.
- Train staff and volunteers in work procedures and requirements.
- Market recreation programs as assigned. Assist in the preparation and presentation of brochures, newsletters, press releases, social media, website information, and related public relations materials as required.
- Prepare and submit budget requests for assigned programs; monitor assigned expenditures; and manage contracts.
- Manage inventory and equipment for assigned programs and activities; ensure that orders are placed in a timely manner.
- Interpret and explain pertinent City and department policies and procedures.
- Analyze problems, evaluate alternatives, and recommend or take effective course of action.
- Prepare a variety of reports and maintain records and files.
- Promote and enforce safe work practices and ensure location and equipment safety.
- Respond to inquiries, complaints, and requests in a courteous manner.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Work independently in the absence of supervision.
- Be an integral team player, which involves flexibility, cooperation, and effective communication.
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, including staff and the public.
- Maintain physical condition, audio-visual discrimination and perception, and mental capacity appropriate to the working conditions and the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: Two (2) years of recreation leadership and program experience.
EDUCATION/TRAINING REQUIREMENT: Equivalent to an Associate of Arts degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in recreation administration or a related field. Desired candidate has experience working with a recreation software program, preferably Rec Trac.
Licenses and Certifications- Possession of a California Class C Driver’s License with a good driving record throughout employment.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, First Aid, CPR, and AED Certification for Infants/Adults completed through or acknowledged by the American Red Cross or American Heart Association, or must be obtained within six months of hire as a condition of employment.
