Overview
Experienced ICP Environmental Chemist (Metals Chemist) role in the United States, South Carolina, West Columbia. This position, with a focus on ICP-MS or OES metals analysis, supports analysis of water and soil samples for metal concentrations. The person chosen will provide guidance in method development, instrument troubleshooting and maintenance. The facility houses a significant number of instruments to enable high-volume analysis.
Responsible for being a technical specialist to serve the needs of the metals department to help achieve department goals.
Responsibilities- Serves as a technical lead to staff, including providing analytical training and maintenance training.
- Troubleshoots instrument problems and collaborates with instrument manufacturers to resolve issues.
- Develops methods as needed to meet evolving regulatory limits or to accommodate new methods.
- Sets up equipment and methods for use by analytical staff.
- Oversees or reviews, completes and processes comprehensive SOPs and related materials.
- Provides analysis, interpretation and counsel to staff and management.
- Performs data review or analysis as needed to meet customer needs.
- Interprets and applies department policies and procedures and assists with applicable laws, rules, and regulations; seeks guidance as needed.
- Promotes and supports the overall mission by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior with customers and staff and maintaining a harmonious and effective workplace.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors Degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Biochemistry or related field, Required
- At least 5 years of experience, Required
- Experience operating and maintaining ICP-OES and/or ICP-MS, Required
- Instrument and method troubleshooting experience, Required
- Instrument maintenance experience, Required
- Training others on instrumentation, Preferred
- Method Development experience, Preferred
- Mercury analyzer experience, Preferred
