Job Summary

Job Summary
:
Responsible for medication use control. Assures safe and effective use of medications through clinical involvement. Participates in education activities related to drug therapy to enhance personal knowledge as well as that of other health professionals. Participates in administrative, medication use evaluations, and other performance improvement activities. Involved in direct patient education and interviews to obtain an accurate medication list.

Pharmacy Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for medication use control
  • Assures safe and effective use of medications through clinical involvement
  • Participates in educational activities related to drug therapy to enhance personal knowledge as well as that of other health professionals
  • Participates in administrative, medication use evaluations, and other performance improvement activities
  • Demonstrates regard for dignity, respect, and safety to all patients, family members, visitors, and hospital personnel, as defined in the philosophy of the organization
  • Participates in meeting the goals and objectives of the department to ensure the attainment of the hospital’s goals and objectives
  • Controls the drug use process in the patient-care area by working closely with nursing and medical staff to ensure cost-effective use of drug therapy, appropriate drug administration, and efficient drug distribution
  • Suggests ideas for cost control
  • Assumes responsibility, accepts accountability and makes decisions related to the provision of pharmaceutical services
  • Dispenses medications accurately
  • Reviews orders to verify and confirm accuracy and appropriateness of drug, dosage, and route, and to detect incompatibilities of drug interactions
