Reports To:

Head of School, Middle School Principal & Middle School Assistant Principal
FLSA Status:
Exempt
Contract Length: 200 Days (July-June)

Position Summary

The School Counselor supports students’ academic success, personal/social development, and career readiness through a comprehensive school counseling program. The counselor collaborates with administrators, teachers, families, and community partners to ensure a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment while promoting student well-being and achievement.

Responsibilities Student Support
  • Provide individual and small-group counseling.
  • Support goal setting, decision-making, conflict resolution, and self-advocacy.
  • Identify students needing additional interventions and coordinate referrals.
  • Assist in crisis response and mandated reporting.
Academic and Career Development
  • Monitor academic progress and develop intervention plans.
  • Assist with course planning and graduation requirements.
  • Facilitate career awareness and post-secondary planning.
Collaboration and Communication
  • Consult with teachers, administrators, and families.
  • Participate in IEP/504 and MTSS meetings.
  • Provide parent education and resources.
Program Management
  • Implement a comprehensive counseling program.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and confidentiality.
  • Analyze data for program improvement.
  • Participate in professional development.
School Culture and Climate
  • Promote equity, inclusion, and positive behavior.
  • Support attendance, behavior, and SEL initiatives.
  • Advocate for students and families.
Qualifications

Required

  • Master’s degree in School Counseling or related field.
  • Valid state certification/licensure.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

Preferred

  • Previous school counseling experience.
  • Trauma-informed or MTSS experience.
Physical and Work Requirements
  • Ability to work in a school environment.
  • Occasional evening meetings required.
