Registered Nurse - Full-Time, Chicago, IL
Annual Salary Range: $60,000-$95,000

- Plan, implement, coordinate, evaluate and promote the continuity of care consistent with established standards and practices.
- Assess health status by interviewing the patient regarding current status and medical history.
- Collect and record nursing assessment and interventions.
- Review and report the results of the health status assessment and physical examination, pertinent laboratory data, radiographic data and psychosocial assessment of assigned patients to the provider; assess patient/family needs and provide teaching and other instructional material.
- Provide psychosocial support to patients and families.
- Maintain patient confidentiality.
- Prepare and administer therapies under the direction and supervision of a physician.
- Administer all medications/blood products using correct medication/blood product, dosage/amount, route, time and technique.
- Assure pre-authorization and appropriate consent forms are obtained prior to administration of therapies where applicable.
- Facilitate dose modification by assessing patient and labs, consulting protocol or treatment plan, calculating dose, and consulting the physician regarding dosage modifications, problems and symptom management.
- Perform venipuncture, access implanted ports and maintain central line/catheter devices.
- Maintain accurate documentation of assigned patient care and treatments provided.
- Apply knowledge of reimbursement procedures and charge capture.
- Maintain work environment; restock the supply area as needed.
- Follow OSHA guidelines when handling cytotoxic agents, biohazardous waste and any other material potentially infected with a blood-borne pathogen.
- Maintain all disinfection protocols.
- Maintain equipment according to quality control standards.
- Facilitate clinical operations and patient care; manage patient medication refill requests from the pharmacy telephone line and record the information in the patient chart.
- Assist physician with exams and procedures.
- Triages patient phone calls as needed and documents relevant information in the patient's chart.
- Facilitate communication between patient/family and interdisciplinary team and coordinate services related to patient care as necessary.
- Assist patients in locating available community resources.
- Collaborate with clinical research and act as a resource to LPN/LVNs and medical assistants.
- Serve as a mentor/preceptor and provide day-to-day guidance to less experienced nurses.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Participates in professional development activities and maintains current knowledge of oncology nursing by participating in ongoing educational opportunities.
- Education/Training – Graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education; BSN preferred. RN state license and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in the practicing state. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Must maintain continuing education requirements.
- Experience – 3-5 years nursing experience including at least one year in oncology preferred.
- Specialized Knowledge/Skills – Oncology certification preferred.
