Provides clerical support to the clinical team in carrying out the daily functions of patient care. Responsible for transcription of physician's orders, maintaining the patient's medical record, related forms and documents from admission to discharge. Provides the communication link for processing information/requests to and from patients, staff, visitors, physicians, and other departments or agencies.

  High school diploma or equivalent required. College or vocational school education preferred.

  1–2 years equivalent customer service experience.
• Required Skills and Knowledge:
  Takes initiative on tasks with minimal supervision; self‑starter.
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills, written and verbal.
• Excellent computer skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and database management.
• Time management skills and ability to handle multiple tasks in a demanding environment.
• Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
• Completes yearly mandatory unit‑specific, hospital and safety education.
• BLS (if not certified at hire, can receive training during orientation).

• Accurate transcription of physician's orders. Review orders as written, notify nurse of any STAT orders. Complete computer order entry or requisitions on a timely basis and forward to appropriate department.
• Schedule diagnostic tests, document completion of orders transcribed, and complete all clerical activities related to admission, transfer or discharge of patient.
• Multitask during periods of high activity or high stress. Communicate effectively with healthcare providers and utilize proper phone etiquette.
• Answer phones, answer patient call lights promptly, page/call appropriate personnel as needed. Notify appropriate healthcare provider of critical test results.
• Act as a receptionist, maintain a positive attitude, greet and assist patients, visitors, physicians, and staff. Serve as a resource for the unit as needed.
• Ensure patient information is handled according to HIPAA.
• Assemble charts on all new admissions, perform chart maintenance throughout shift, promptly add reports to chart as needed, facilitate charts to medical records.
• Copy charts as needed, break down charts of discharged patients and place in designated spot for medical record pick up.
• Perform courier duties as directed by RN, complete admission, transfer, discharge log board, and statistical logbooks. Assist with ordering and stocking supplies/equipment/forms and placing patient charges.
• Maintain clean, safe, organized environment; perform patient sitter duties as needed; notify nurse if equipment not available; assist with unit's statistics and quality improvement data.
• Assist in orienting and mentoring new personnel/volunteers.
