Role Overview
We are seeking a practical and safety-focused Mechanical Engineer to join our client's team at our West Bromwich site. The role involves hands-on mechanical work supporting chemical handling equipment and delivery systems, with a strong emphasis on safety, compliance, and reliability. Occasional travel to other sites or customer locations will be required. Full training, including ADR certification, will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
Inspection, installation, maintenance, and repair of hoses, relief valves, and associated mechanical equipment
Maintenance and inspection of ladders, steps, and protective devices in line with safety regulations
Preparation of chemical delivery tankers, including mechanical checks prior to dispatch
Fault finding and rectification on mechanical systems used in chemical transfer and storage
Ensuring all work complies with relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations
Supporting risk assessments, method statements, and safe systems of work
Liaising with operations, transport, and safety teams to ensure safe and efficient deliveries
Occasional travel to support off-site equipment, inspections, or projects
Maintaining accurate maintenance and inspection records
Skills & Experience
Essential:
Degree, HNC/HND, or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering
Practical experience in a mechanical or industrial environment
Strong understanding of mechanical safety principles
Ability to work methodically and follow procedures
Good communication and teamwork skills
Desirable:
Experience with in the chemicals, manufacturing, or bulk liquids industry desirable, but not essential
Knowledge of pressure systems, valves, or fluid transfer equipment
Previous exposure to tanker operations or hazardous environments
Training & Development
ADR licence training fully provided by the company
Ongoing safety, compliance, and equipment-specific training
