Job Summary
To assess patient financial needs, assist patients and collect deposits according to the Froedtert Hospital Billing and Collection Policy in a professional and courteous manner. To screen patients and assist with applications for applicable governmental programs, the health insurance exchange, and/or the Froedtert Health financial assistance program. To stress customer service and positive interpersonal relations while working closely with Admitting/Registration, Preauthorization, Care Management, appropriate department personnel in Patient Financial Services and MCW Clinical Practice Services in addressing financial responsibilities.
Responsibilities- Assess eligibility and assist with applications for Badger Care, Medicaid, Marketplace plans, and Froedtert’s Financial Assistance Program
- Provide cost estimates and prepayment information for upcoming services
- Meet with patients in various settings—bedside, in-office, or by phone—to address billing questions
- Serve as a liaison between patients, the preauthorization team, and clinical departments to ensure seamless communication and support
- Fast-paced, patient-facing role with opportunities for direct interaction at the bedside, in-office, or via phone.
- Collaborative, on-site environment with cross-functional teamwork involving departments like registration and pre‑authorization.
- Team structure:
Approximately 20 members across inpatient and outpatient settings; outpatient team is larger. - Career mobility and growth potential within the Patient Financial Services (PFS) department.
- A minimum of 1 year of experience in healthcare/revenue cycle functions (or other business office), case management, or social work is required.
- Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel and other software programs is preferred.
- Experience using Epic in a healthcare environment is preferred. Experience in social work or case management is preferred.
- High School diploma or equivalent is required.
- Bachelor's degree in social work, case management, healthcare administration, business administration, or other related field is preferred.
- State of Wisconsin and Federal Certified Application Counselor Designation is preferred.
- In lieu of Certified Application Counselor Designation, current Licensed Health Insurance Agent is preferred.
