Family Support Assistant
Washington County, located in West Bend, Wisconsin has an excellent opportunity for a full time Family Support Assistant. Under the general supervision of the Family Services Supervisor, the primary responsibility is to provide direct services to parents and children involved with the child‑welfare system. The FSA will supervise family interactions, provide parenting education and support to ensure child safety. The Family Support Assistant will report to the Family Services Supervisor and work collaboratively with a team of social workers/case managers.
Qualifications- High School diploma or GED with one-year paid work experience in a related field such as family living, child development/childcare, human services.
- Associate’s degree in related field preferred.
- A valid Wisconsin driver’s license; automobile and insurance are required.
Starting wage: $19.89 - $22.67 (based on experience).

Position Summary- Provide supervision for family interactions between parents and children, conducted in the family’s home or in the community.
- Provide direct services to parents or caregivers such as coaching, education, mentoring, and home management.
- Conduct in-home safety checks to ensure child safety according to the established safety plan.
- Develop and establish goals that support the family’s case plan.
- Provide transportation for children and parents to and from visitations as needed.
- Work a flexible schedule between 8:00 am and 8:00 pm Monday‑Friday, with occasional weekend availability.
- Educate parents about child developmental stages and how to effectively parent through teaching and role modeling, providing redirection, coaching, and modeling of parenting strategies when necessary.
- Assist individuals/families in developing a community support system by sharing available resources and how to use them (e.g., day care, housing, financial and job training, health care, supportive home care).
- Support the Social Worker in achieving the case plan goals established for each family.
- Participate in collaborative meetings with department staff, families, and/or community.
- Establish and maintain effective public and working relationships with collateral resources and agency staff.
- Maintain accurate and professional documentation regarding client and collateral contacts, including progress notes, support plans, monthly scheduling and other recorded documentation as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including responding to an emergency event.
- Ability to provide supervision to children aged newborn to 17 years old.
- Basic understanding of human growth and development through all stages of life.
- Ability to apply trauma‑informed care practices when engaging with clients and families.
- Critical thinking skills; detail oriented; highly effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Physical ability to lift and carry young children and car seats; meet sensory and cognitive demands.
- Proficiency in computer software (Microsoft Office, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
- Ability to plan and organize work to achieve objectives; work independently while maintaining client confidentiality.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, families, community agencies, co‑workers, and the general public; communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
