Position Title: Patient Safety Companion
Employment Type: Full-Time
Shift Availability: 1st shift, 2nd shift, 3rd shift
Position Summary
The Patient Safety Companion provides one-to-one supervision for residents who require continuous observation to ensure their safety and well-being. This role supports residents who may be at risk for falls, confusion, agitation, or unsafe behaviors. The Patient Safety Companion maintains a calm, respectful presence and works closely with the nursing team to promote a safe, supportive environment. This is a temporary position
, assigned to support the care needs of one specific resident. The duration of the assignment is dependent on the resident’s condition and ongoing care needs and may end with little notice based on changes in clinical status. If openings are available upon completion of this assignment, other full-time roles could be discussed. This is a non-clinical role focused on observation, safety, and compassionate support.
- Provide continuous, uninterrupted observation of assigned resident(s)
- Ensure resident safety by preventing falls, elopement, or self-harm
- Observe and report changes in resident behavior, mood, or physical condition
- Communicate promptly and clearly with nursing staff regarding concerns
- Offer reassurance, redirection, and emotional support as appropriate
- Assist with approved non-clinical comfort measures
- Maintain resident dignity, privacy, and confidentiality at all times
- Follow all facility policies, safety standards, and infection control procedures
- Complete required documentation in accordance with facility guidelines
- Collaborate effectively with nursing and resident care staff
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to remain attentive and observant for extended periods
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Dependable attendance and punctuality
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
Preferred:
- CBRF Certification
- Prior experience in long-term care, assisted living, or residential care
- Experience supporting residents with dementia or cognitive impairment
- CPR or BLS certification
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods
- Ability to respond quickly to resident needs or emergency situations
- Ability to assist with non-clinical positioning or comfort support as needed
This position is based in a long-term care or residential care setting and may involve working with residents experiencing cognitive impairment or behavioral challenges. The role requires patience, professionalism, sound judgment, and emotional maturity.
