Public Safety Captain - Third Shift (West Allis, WI) Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of Public Safety, this role will oversee all aspects of third shift public safety-related operations and services provided at Wisconsin State Fair Park (WSFP). This seasonal position will be scheduled between the hours of 11 pm – 9 am, but may be adjusted on occasion, based on operational needs. This role will work in a full-time capacity over the 11-day annual Wisconsin State Fair, Harvest Fair, and certain race-related events, including weekends.

There may be additional work hours offered outside of these events.

Employment Type

This position is an unclassified, seasonal Limited Term Employment (LTE) position within the State of Wisconsin employment system. Annual hours worked in this position will not exceed 1039 hours.

Compensation

The starting wage for this role is $23.00 per hour.

This position is open to all qualified State of Wisconsin residents who meet the outlined criteria.

Essential Functions
  • Plan, direct and coordinate shift operations
  • Interpret and administer department rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Supervise, evaluate and complete performance appraisals for assigned personnel
  • Monitor operational public safety activity and recommend improvements
  • Receive, document and investigate staff and citizen complaints
  • Provide assistance to the public in emergency and non-emergency situations
  • Respond to disruptive and/or disorderly incidents, various medical situations and assure order is maintained
  • Assist sworn law enforcement personnel as directed
  • Conduct inspections of assigned personnel and equipment
  • Attend mandatory trainings required to maintain a Public Safety Captain status
  • Assist the Director of Public Safety with specialized assignments
Qualifications
  • Prior experience working in a public safety or police-related capacity, required
  • Minimum of two (2) years of professional supervisory experience, required
  • Knowledge of concepts, trends and issues influencing public safety
  • Ability to effectively delegate authority and responsibility while providing a means to maintain accountability
  • Maintain DAAT (Defense and Arrest Tactics) certification
  • Possess and maintain a valid Driver License
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Adept at using technology-based equipment (i.e., computers, radios, cell phones)
Special Notes

The candidate must be able to work all 11 days of the annual Wisconsin State Fair. Prior to appointment to this position, the candidate will be subject to a comprehensive criminal background check.
