Position SummaryThe Turbine Installation Technical Advisor provides on-site technical leadership and advisory support during the erection and installation of newly supplied steam turbines, turbine valves, and auxiliary systems. The role is focused on new steam turbine installations and works closely with EPC contractors, Toshiba Japan engineering, and TAES project teams to ensure installation activities are executed in full compliance with Toshiba design specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements.
This position serves as the technical authority in the field for installation best practices and is responsible for the execution, witnessing, and documentation of all Critical-to-Quality (CTQ) installation checks through mechanical completion and turnover to commissioning.
Key Responsibilities- Provide on-site technical advisory support for the erection and installation of new steam turbines, turbine valves, and associated auxiliary systems.
- Long-term project site assignments (domestic and international), typically up to one year per site depending on project scope
- Ensure installation activities are performed in accordance with Toshiba design drawings, specifications, installation manuals, and quality requirements.
- Serve as the primary technical interface between EPC contractors, TAES project management, and Toshiba Japan engineering.
- Review and validate EPC installation procedures, lift plans, work sequences, and method statements for technical compliance.
- Perform, witness, and document all Critical-to-Quality (CTQ) inspections and hold points associated with steam turbine and valve installation.
- Verify critical dimensions, alignments, elevations, clearances, torques, piping interfaces, cleanliness, and preservation requirements.
- Identify, document, and support resolution of installation non-conformances in coordination with engineering and quality teams.
- Provide technical guidance to EPC supervision and craft labor to resolve field installation issues.
- Participate in site safety meetings and actively promote safe work practices.
- Support installation walk-downs, mechanical completion verification, and readiness for handover to commissioning.
- Complete required classroom and factory training in Japan, including hands‑on support of equipment assembly, to develop detailed knowledge of scope of supply, design documentation, and quality requirements. Expected three to four months of initial training in Japan.
- Perform U.S.‑based OJT assignments during new unit installations, with formal skill evaluations. Successful completion of one or more OJT assignments and demonstration of skills will result in TA certification as a fully qualified, billable Technical Advisor.
- Participate in ongoing training in Japan to maintain qualification and support future project needs.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline preferred. Equivalent combination of technical training and extensive field experience will be considered in lieu of a formal degree.
- Minimum of ten (10) years of field experience in steam turbine installation, erection, or commissioning within the power generation industry, including direct experience with new steam turbine installations, turbine valves, and auxiliary systems.
- Technical Knowledge:
Steam turbine installation practices, valve systems (MSV, CV, bypass), auxiliary systems, installation tolerances, preservation and cleanliness requirements, and construction site safety and quality systems.
