Toshiba America Energy Systems Corporation (TAES) provides energy industry solutions – new equipment, retrofits, maintenance, outage planning and more – for current and future power generation needs in the Americas, including thermal, hydro and nuclear power plants.
We are seeking to fill the role of a Turbine Engineer (entry level or experienced) to work at our West Allis, WI site. This position will be responsible for Mechanical Engineering activities in support of our power generator service steam turbine evaluation and repair. The job will require working closely with other engineers, shop operations, field operations and project management personnel to execute customer service projects.
This position will involve evaluation of steam turbine components, as well as prescribing or developing repairs needed to return them to serviceable condition. Hands on work, in support of project execution and in close cooperation with other company operations and customers, are expected. Additionally, this position may assist in the bidding and proposal information development.
- Learn and apply appropriate repair methods for turbine components.
- Create repair drawings and work instructions under the direction of a more senior level engineer.
- Learn about Toshiba and OOEM materials used for turbine components.
- Learn and specify welding repairs of turbine components.
- Assist other Engineers in evaluating inspection results and representing them to customers.
- Perform vendor visits as needed to monitor job progress and facilitate progress.
- Learn risk assessment from more senior engineers.
- Become knowledgeable about Toshiba's base technical and commercial offerings.
- Review of Customers request for quotation to determine if it meets Toshiba's best practices to assure a technically sound repair.
- Learn basic inspection with portable coordinate measuring equipment. Apply existing inspection test work scopes (or assists in creating new scopes) and direct data collection as needed to perform condition assessment or diagnose equipment problems.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office required.
- Basic understanding in the use of Solid Works and AutoCAD.
- Technical aptitude in manufacturing processes and standards.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
- Knowledge of document management concepts and computer-based document management systems is desired.
- Application of software based finite element methods desired.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and rarely lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.
- While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear.
- The employee is frequently required to walk and occasionally required to stand.
- Required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
Requires ability to work in an office environment as well within a manufacturing shop environment where exposed to extreme temperatures and exposed to higher noise levels.
