Overview
The School District of West Allis-West Milwaukee is currently seeking a full time, Regular Education Educational Assistant for Horace Mann Elementary School. The role of the educational assistant is to provide direct student support and staff support in all learning environments. This position will provide support during lunch and recess, work with small groups of students and 1:1 with students, support with changing students, and collaborate with classroom teachers.
Possible duties of a Regular Education Instructional Education Assistant are listed below and may be assigned as time permits.
QualificationsCandidates must have completed two-years of post-secondary education (48 credits) or an associate’s degree.
Rate of PayRATE OF PAY: $18.04/hr.
Skills and Abilities- Must be able to learn and use basic computer skills including Microsoft Office:
Word, Outlook and Excel. - Must be able to effectively communicate in both oral and written formats with teachers, students and other staff.
- Must be able to follow confidentiality guidelines.
- Must be able to use various office machines.
- Must be able to collaborate effectively with teachers.
- Must be able to work effectively with students.
- Must be able to work independently and with minimum supervision or instruction.
- Must be able to resolve conflict between students in a reasonable manner.
- Must be able to prioritize and perform multiple time sensitive tasks.
- Must be able to demonstrate patience and have empathy.
- Must be able to respond appropriately to difficult student behaviors.
- Must be able to interact appropriately with a diverse student population effectively.
- Must be able to maintain a positive attitude and work environment.
- Must be able to follow the leadership and direction of the teacher and assist in motivating and encouraging the development of student’s positive self-concepts.
- Supervision and support of students in various settings.
- Follows the teacher-developed educational plan by working with individual students, small groups, and circulating around classroom.
- Assembling, organizing and taking inventory of materials and supplies.
- Assist in creating and maintaining educational materials, (copying, laminating, typing etc.)
- Assist students and staff with testing.
- Routine IMC work including inventory and supervision of students (primarily IMC assistants)
- Assist with book inventory.
- Assist in evaluating student progress.
- Assist/chaperone in the organization of field trips.
- Escorting of students between different areas of the educational environment.
- Collection and accounting of various fees in connection with textbooks, i.e. fines, etc. for book rental.
- Dispensing of medications to students when secretary is unavailable.
- Health room supervision
- Must maintain CPR/First Aide certification. Sessions are provided by the District.
