Job Summary

Provides quality patient care when performing diagnostic cardiology and/or vascular sonographic imaging and related procedures to demonstrate anatomy for interpretation and/or intervention under the supervision of the department supervisor, manager, or director.

Essential Functions
  • Demonstrates competency in routine noninvasive and/or invasive cardiology and/or vascular ultrasound diagnostics, equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Requires in-depth conceptual and practical knowledge in own job discipline and basic knowledge of related job disciplines.

  • Recognizes normal and abnormal anatomy and physiology in conjunction with obtaining and documenting pertinent clinical and diagnostic information.
  • Works closely with the cardiologist to perform noninvasive and/or invasive cardiology and/or vascular diagnostic sonographic exams, and functions independently in the absence of the supervisor and/or manager.

  • Comprises tasks: exercise professional judgment in performance, maintain a demeanor complementary to quality care, deliver appropriate care while recognizing patient conditions and ensuring successful completion of procedures.
  • Complies with all state and federal regulations applicable to each modality.
  • Adheres to Orlando Health mission statements and commitment to excellence standards.
  • Assesses the patient’s physical condition and age specific needs, provides instructions to achieve patient cooperation and desired results, performs proper patient identification, acquires patient’s clinical history, and ensures accurate documentation.
  • Positions patient, equipment, associated devices, manipulates technical factors to achieve high‑quality images for interpretation.
  • Assesses diagnostic images for technical quality, proper annotation, and patient identification, ensuring that all relative anatomy is demonstrated.
  • Comprehends bloody; adheres to Quality Control standards and participates in all Quality Control tasks.
  • Administers medical aid as required for any emergency situation, applies standard precautions and personal protective equipment.
  • Utilizes all Orlando Health computer systems effectively and accurately.
  • Ensures safety of all customers, maintains accurate and precise documentation, accurately records verbal and telephone orders from physicians in the patient record.
  • Communicates openly and effectively with all members of the healthcare team, participates in supervising student sonographers, training, and orienting new sonographers, directing daily workflow and quality initiatives as a department super‑user.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Education/Training

Graduate of an accredited school of sonography. Depending on assigned department, meets education/training as required under established current American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) and/or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)ুদ guidelts.
