Environmental Technician II

The Environmental Services Technician II is responsible for executing the daily duties required to establish and maintain a safe, clean, healing environment. Responsible for ensuring daily room cleaning and timely room turnaround times related to patient throughput within the basic principles of environmental hygiene and infection prevention. The Environmental Services Technician, in accordance with organizational standards of quality, is an essential contributor to cleaning, disinfection, infection prevention, and customer experience.

• Respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers using appropriate engagement techniques.
• Clean and disinfect patient rooms and ancillary areas such as bathrooms, public areas, corridors, medication storage rooms, and other areas requiring attention using designated chemicals and cleaning procedures.
• Access and use department‑related technology systems such as Bed Management systems.
• Replenish supplies as needed; remove biomedical waste, trash, and soiled linen daily; change cubicle and window curtains as needed.
• Complete patient room and bathroom cleaning daily to accommodate discharges and admissions and maintain overall cleanliness standards.
• Perform duties while demonstrating working knowledge of healthcare cleaning and disinfecting principles and requirements, safe chemical use, equipment handling, and labor‑saving products for all items in the healthcare environment.
• Adhere to organization safety, risk management, and infection control guidelines and standards while promoting a culture of safety.
• Operate UV disinfection machines as needed or according to policy.
• Participate in departmental performance improvement initiatives, including initiatives to improve customer experience and cleanliness metrics.
• Follow all infection prevention practices, including proper cleaning and disinfection protocols, hand hygiene, standard and isolation precautions, and proper donning and doffing of PPE.
• Recognize and adhere to patient privacy requirements (HIPAA).
• Assist in onboarding new Environmental Services Technician I and II’s as requested.
• Report unsafe situations and submit Engineering Service Requests for repair.
• Maintain punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
• Maintain compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.

High School Diploma or GED, preferred

Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Technician (CHEST), preferred
