Job Summary
The Custodian is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of city facilities. This includes picking up trash, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, or using industrial cleaning equipment to clean floors, cleaning and stocking bathrooms, ensuring buildings are secure, cleaning windows, and minor building maintenance and repairs. Follows and enforces department policies.
Essential Job Functions- Keeping building and property in clean and orderly condition.
- Performing routine cleaning duties, possibly at times heavy.
- Maintains an inventory of cleaning equipment and supplies.
- Ensure quality customer service at all times.
- Performs other similar or related duties as assigned.
- Sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and dusting floors and surfaces.
- Gathering and emptying trash and recyclingwira.
- Responds appropriately to all emergencies and reports all incidents to appropriate supervisor.
- Sets up, moves, and takes down various items of furniture or equipment.
- Scrubbing, sanitizing, supplying, and maintaining restroom facilities.
- Cleaning windows, mirrors, partitions, and other items.
- Ensuring spaces are prepared for daily operations.
- Maintains safety standards at all times.
- Will be responsible for set‑up of functions/events.
- Maintain regular and prompt attendance, physically present to work.
- Employee may be required to work beyond normal business hours at night and/or on weekends.
- Must have High School diploma, or equivalent (GED).
- One (1) to three (3) years of related work experience to perform such job.
- Applicant must pass pre‑employment criminal background check and drug screen at City’s expense.
- Applicant must have current valid Class "C" Driver’s License and be insurable.
- Must successfully complete Emergency Management and Incident Command Training within first three months of hire date.
- Bilingual English/Spanish Preferred.
- Working knowledge of building maintenance techniques and practices.
- Good work organizational skills.
- Ability to complete work assignments in a safe, detailed, and efficient manner.
- Time‑management and multitasking abilities.
- Good verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Moderate intermittent physical strength and effort such as, lifting heavy objects (over 60lbs. but less than 100lbs.).
- Carrying object(s) and stacking or placing them in a vehicle or storage area.
- Pulling, pushing, standing, or walking for the full workday.
- Routine reading of documents for general understanding and operation of building maintenance equipment in a safe and effective manner.
- Ability to carry out job duties under adverse weather conditions in a safe manner.
