Position: Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)

Certified Medical Assistant – Texas Oncology – Weslaco, TX (1330 East 6th Street)

Overview

Texas Oncology is looking for a Certified Medical Assistant to join our team at the Weslaco location. Typical work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm. This position will be classified as Level 1, Level 2, or Senior based on candidate experience.

Long‑Term Incentive Plan (LTIP)

The LTIP is an incentive program that typically vests over a three‑year period and is tied to both individual performance and operational success. Awards are discretionary, reviewed annually, and require continued employment through the award payment date.

Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Escort patients to and from exam rooms, physician offices, and treatment rooms as appropriate.
  • Record patient data prior to each physician visit, including vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.
  • Obtain all necessary patient records as required by physicians before treatment or procedures.
  • Prepare and stock exam and treatment rooms and order supplies as needed.
  • Assist physicians with exams and procedures as requested.
  • Administer subcutaneous and intramuscular injections, as delegated by RN or physician.
  • Maintain all exam and treatment room disinfection protocols.
  • Answer patient telephone calls for referral to physician or nurse/pharmacist.
  • Process prescriptions and make patient calls as directed by physicians and RN.
  • Inform physicians of patient reschedules and no‑shows.
  • Perform other administrative duties (typing, filing, faxing, chart preparation, reception, etc.) as requested by supervisor or physician.
  • May enter orders under a provider’s direction and supervision.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have the following background and experience:

Level 1
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Certificate of graduation from an accredited medical assistant program preferred.
  • 0–3 years of experience as a medical or nursing assistant.
  • Current BCLS certification required within 3 months of hire.
  • Certified Medical Assistant preferred.
  • Some states require specific certifications.
Level 2 (in addition to Level
1)
  • Minimum three years of experience as a medical or nursing assistant.
  • Phlebotomy experience preferred.
  • Certified Medical Assistant preferred.
Senior Level (in addition to Level 1 and
2)
  • Minimum five years of experience as a medical or nursing assistant in a hospital or clinic setting.
  • Current CPR certification required.
Physical Demands

Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, eye‑hand coordination, standing and walking for long periods, and occasional lifting of up to 40 lbs. Corrected vision and hearing to normal range are required.

Work Environment

Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medical preparations, and other typical oncology clinic conditions may occur.
