Link Transit is looking for full-time Bus Drivers (Coach Operators) to connect people to jobs, healthcare, education, and leisure activities! As a Coach Operator, you would provide our guests with the freedom and convenience of reliable, safe transportation.

Requirements
  • A strong work history. Commercial driving experience is not required, but customer service is a bonus!
  • Have a valid Washington Driver's License with an acceptable driving record. (DRIVING RECORDS WILL BE CHECKED, and offers will be rescinded if you have more than one moving violation or any at-fault accidents in the last 3 years)
  • Have any combination equivalent to graduation from high school diploma/GED
  • Per our Teamsters union contract, you need to be able to work all days of the week. Days or hours cannot be guaranteed off since work shifts are awarded by seniority. You will not find out which days you have off until after training is completed.
  • Hours of Service:
    Monday–Friday: 4:25 am – 9:55 pm
    Saturday: 6:25 am – 8:00 pm
    Sunday: 6:30 am – 8:45 pm
Job Responsibilities
  • Operate a mass transit vehicle to provide safe, courteous, and reliable transportation services to various destinations within the transit district for either fixed route or demand response services; provide transportation information to passengers.
  • Operate transportation service vehicles on specified routes according to specified time schedules; perform demand response services.
  • Assist riders from their doorstep or Link route stop to their next destination when requested.
  • Provide information to passengers concerning transit routes, city street locations, time schedules, public buildings and various points of interest; announce streets and transfer points.
  • Promote positive guest relations; greet passengers in a tactful and courteous manner; assist guests with boarding, seating, questions and related matters.
  • Secure all mobility devices in vehicles in accordance with established safety policies and procedures.
  • Inform passengers of transit policies and procedures; assist passengers who may have difficulty boarding or de-boarding transit vehicles.
  • Care for and turn in lost and found articles.
  • Pick and drop off guests through radio communication with Demand Response dispatch when assigned to Demand Response; be flexible to changes throughout the day.
  • May instruct coach operator trainees in proper driving habits, proper methods of loading passengers and other policies and procedures of the transit system.
  • Prepare required paperwork accurately, such as, but not limited to, manifests, lost and found tags and reports of accidents, incidents and equipment malfunctions.
  • Prepare vehicle for operation by following required pre-trip inspection as instructed.
  • Monitor mobile communications; report any unusual conditions, such as, but not limited to, accidents, passenger incidents and traffic problems.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Education and Experience:

    Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school/GED, an excellent employment history with a strong customer service background, and a satisfactory driving record.
  • Knowledge of oral and written communication skills. Interpersonal and customer relations skills.
  • Ability to:
    Learn and explain standard transit and paratransit operating practices and procedures, learn and practice safety rules and procedures required in the transportation of guests, learn bus routes, schedules, street and locations within the Agency's service area, tactfully maintain order among passengers, learn map reading techniques, be flexible in handling changes, speak, write, understand and read English, understand and follow written and oral instructions, drive an assigned transit vehicle according to an established schedule to provide fixed route, demand response or route-deviated transportation services, safely operate service vehicles, work patiently with and demonstrate sensitivity to the elderly and those with disabilities, resolve customer complaints courteously and tactfully, communicate effectively orally, maintain accurate records and reports, establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other Link employees and the general public.

    May be required to install and remove chains during snow season. May be assigned to other duties related to service operation and public information as needed.
