Wage
DOE: $48-$52/hour
Administrative Functions- Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, coordinate, and direct the infection control program in accordance with CDC, OSHA, and local regulations.
- Ensure the facility follows current infection control standards and universal precautions.
- Develop, maintain, and periodically update infection control precautions and aseptic techniques.
- Interpret infection control policies and procedures as necessary and maintain a reference library of written materials.
- Prepare written and oral reports/recommendations to the Administrator concerning the infection control program.
- Assist all departments in evaluating and classifying routine job functions to ensure proper identification of tasks involving exposure to blood/body fluids.
- Monitor infection control practices and ensure personnel implement standard operating procedures for tasks involving exposure to blood/body fluids.
- Make rounds to nursing units to review case findings, environmental sanitation procedures, and supervise isolation precautions/practices.
- Visit isolated residents as necessary to confirm compliance with isolation precautions and aseptic technique.
- Ensure laboratory support, including microbiological and serological services, is available.
- Review and analyze infectious disease laboratory reports and consult with the Director of Nursing Services to develop care plans.
- Prepare monthly summaries of resident and personnel infections, corrective actions taken, and submit to the Administrator and Director of Nursing Services.
- Provide reports of nosocomial infection findings and recommendations.
- Participate in facility surveys and inspections by authorized government agencies.
- Report all reportable diseases to county and state health departments.
- Perform administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, and charting as necessary.
- Develop and implement a system for detecting, evaluating, recording, and reporting infections among facility personnel.
- Assist the personnel director in developing and implementing an employee health services program, including counseling.
- Provide employee counseling as outlined in the infection control and employee health program.
- Advise employees on hepatitis B vaccination policies and assist in TB Mantoux testing and recordkeeping.
- Orient new employees to infection control policies, personal hygiene, and handwashing techniques.
- Report occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and hazardous chemicals per facility policies.
- Meet with staff to identify and correct problem areas, improving services as necessary.
- Maintain a good working relationship with department directors and personnel to ensure infection control services are properly maintained.
- Review complaints and grievances filed by department personnel.
- Recommend equipment and supplies needed for the infection control program.
- Ensure a stock level of medical supplies and equipment is maintained on premises at all times.
- Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of a written care plan for each resident in isolation or on infection control precautions.
- Encourage resident participation in care plan development and explain the importance of following infection control practices.
- Ensure all personnel involved in resident care are aware of and follow the care plan.
- Review and revise care plans as necessary, at least quarterly.
- Assist the Director of Nursing Services in preparing the department budget related to the infection control program.
- Recommend adjustments to maintain ability to prevent and control infectious diseases.
- Report suspected or known fraud related to false billings, cost reports, or kickbacks.
– Education and Experience
- Registered Nursing degree from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a long‑term care facility.
- Current, unencumbered, active license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state.
- Current CPR certification.
- APIC certification in infection control preferred, but not required.
- Knowledge and experience with PCC preferred.
