Apprentice - Rail Engineering Technician: Level 3

Overview

This is an opportunity to join a world‑leading engineering company through a well‑established 39‑month Apprenticeship Development Programme. You will work alongside experienced professionals and receive strong support, mentoring and coaching while developing against the Apprenticeship Standard. The programme includes placements across multiple departments to build a broad understanding of the business and provide a varied, rewarding experience.

• 5s
• Primary fault finding and reporting
• Basic maintenance competency such as side‑skirt cleans, brake pad and block changes
• Depot cleaning and general housekeeping
• SAP and SES input
• Update CMS logbook accordingly
• Preventative and corrective maintenance (electrical or mechanical)
• Follow depot or fleet specific requirements when required
• Wheel lathe operation
• Workshop repairs
• Understand and abide by safety notices, rules & regulations and follow safe working practices (H&S/AWA and COSHH)
• Work in accordance with Alstom’s lifesaving rules
• Comply with Alstom’s Zero Deviation Policy (AZDP)
• Follow Vehicle Maintenance Instructions (VMI)
• Participate in academic studies at Capital City College, Enfield Campus, while working on site to build competence and evidence for a formal qualification

• Minimum 5 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above, including Maths, English and a Science
• Good mechanical and electrical ability with an understanding of precision and accuracy
• Self‑motivated and able to demonstrate commitment to achieving the apprenticeship standard
• Ability to act as a member of a multi‑disciplined team and work on your own initiative when required
