THE ROLE
An exciting and challenging opportunity has arisen for a full‑time member of Police Staff to join the Eastern Region Special Operations Unit (ERSOU) as a Technical Surveillance Engineer. The post will be based at Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire.

This is a challenging and physically demanding role that requires the successful candidate to work effectively on their own initiative as well as operating as part of a team. They must be capable of working under pressure in hostile environments, including working at height and in confined spaces.
A flexible approach to working is essential, there will be a requirement to work unsocial hours with short notice duty changes dependent on operational need and form part of the on‑call rota.
Applicants must have a full UK driving licence and pass the relevant vetting process (MV/SC).
A short‑list process will take place following the closing date, shortlisted applicants will be required to attend a selection process consisting of written and practical tests followed by a formal interview where their competencies will be assessed.
Successful applicants will be required to attend courses at the College of Policing and show competency in all areas of the TSU training pathway (Core Skills, Tactics, Audio/Video as well as other disciplines).
ERSOU – Who We Are And What We DoCreated in 2010, ERSOU is funded by the seven police forces that make up the eastern region, with Bedfordshire Police being the lead force. ERSOU is the Eastern Region Special Operations Unit, that oversees and delivers a regional level response to Serious and Organised Crime, and Counter Terrorism Policing for the Forces in the Eastern Region.
ERSOU is made up of both Officers and Police Staff from across the entire region and works closely with the 7 Forces and National Partners. The departments are unique, in that they offer opportunities to work and develop individuals professionally in specialist areas, often delivering capabilities that are provided by local forces.
