Job Summary:

The Perioperative Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for coordinating and delivering comprehensive nursing care for patients throughout the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases of surgery. This role ensures a safe, efficient, and patient-centered surgical experience by collaborating with the surgical team to achieve optimal patient outcomes. The Perioperative RN upholds professional nursing standards while maintaining compliance with hospital policies and infection control protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide direct nursing care to surgical patients before, during, and after procedures, ensuring a safe and sterile environment.
• Assess patient conditions, review medical histories, and communicate any concerns to the surgical team.
• Monitor patient responses to anesthesia, surgical interventions, and post-operative recovery, adjusting care plans as needed.
• Maintain strict adherence to aseptic techniques, universal precautions, and patient safety protocols.
• Assist in preparing and positioning patients, managing surgical instruments, and ensuring proper sponge, sharps, and instrument counts.
• Accurately document patient care, interventions, and surgical team compliance with safety regulations.
• Educate patients and families on pre- and post-operative care, discharge instructions, and recovery expectations.
• Collaborate with physicians, surgical staff, and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care.
• Administer medications, IV therapy, and therapeutic treatments while closely monitoring patient responses.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives, infection control measures, and compliance with perioperative best practices.
• Maintain professional competencies through ongoing education, certifications, and training.
• Call is required

Qualifications:

Licensure:
Active NYS RN license.

Education:

Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN preferred).

Certifications:

Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required.

Experience:

Prior perioperative, operating room, or surgical nursing experience preferred.

• Expertise in perioperative nursing, including sterile technique and surgical instrumentation.
