Description:
Welders Helper provides crucial support to welders in various tasks related to fabrication, maintenance, and repair of metal structures and equipment. Key responsibilities include preparing materials, setting up equipment, maintaining a clean workspace, and assisting with the welding process itself, but without performing the actual welding. The Welders Helper supports welders by ensuring tools and workplace are safe. Assist with prepping units to weld such as, cutting, media blasting, sanding - debur, cleaning and fixturing components.
If you have the desire to learn the welding trade, this is the opportunity for you. You will be given the opportunity to learn and practice Gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) with the possibility of moving to a welders position.
- Material Preparation:
Cutting, grinding, and preparing metal components for welding, which may involve using hand and power tools. - Conducts preventative maintenance of welding equipment and tools.
- Equipment Handling:
Assembling and setting up welding equipment, ensuring it is in good working order, and assisting with its maintenance and repair. - Work Area Management:
Keeping the workspace clean, organized, and safe, including removing debris and potential hazards. - Operates various saws, mills, media blasters, sanders and hand tools preparing various aircraft parts for welding.
- Read and interpret manuals, drawings and blueprints; use precision measuring equipment.
- Assisting with Welding:
Holding and positioning work pieces, providing welders with tools and materials as needed, and ensuring a smooth workflow. - Safety Compliance:
Following all safety protocols and guidelines and identifying and reporting potential hazards. Obtain respirator certification. - Other Duties:
Performing tasks such as cleaning welds, inspecting finished products, and assisting with the transportation of materials and equipment.
- Physical Stamina: Welders Helpers need to be physically fit to handle the demands of the job, including lifting, bending, and working in various positions.
- Mechanical Aptitude: A basic understanding of tools, equipment, and mechanical processes is helpful.
- Attention to Detail: Accuracy and precision are important in preparing materials, assembling components, and ensuring quality.
- Teamwork: The ability to work effectively with welders and other team members is essential.
- Following Instructions: Welders Helpers must be able to understand and follow both verbal and written instructions.
- Safety Awareness: A strong commitment to safety and the ability to identify and address potential hazards are crucial.
- Basic Knowledge of Welding: While not required to weld, some knowledge of the process can be beneficial.
