OverviewJOB SUMMARY: Performs seasonal work for the summer camp program for the Village of Wellington (Village). Position is responsible for assisting in the supervision of campers, with a focus on maintaining the overall safety, health, and welfare of camp participants. This job is intended to provide on-the-job-training to employees with basic skills. Work is performed under close supervision with minimal latitude in the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Responsibilities- Monitors campers’ actions and activities to ensure adherence to standard and established safety policies, procedures, guidelines, and operating requirements.
- Ensures the safe and effective operating conditions of all equipment used during program delivery.
- Ensures the safe and appropriate conduct of campers; addresses chronic misconduct to prevent injuries to campers, staff, or the public.
- Reports all accidents per Village policy; provides first responder response in the event of injury, e.g., administering first aid, administering CPR, calling 911, etc.
- Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or GED required; college level course work in physical education, recreation, athletics or some previous directly-related experience preferred; or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training and/or experience. - Certifications and Licenses:
Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Driver License and the ability to drive a Village owned vehicle per established policies, procedures, and safety guidelines (if age appropriate). - Completion of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid (first responder) training preferred. (The Village of Wellington will provide training to anyone who is not certified in CPR and First Aid).
Regular attendance at work on-site is essential to maintain the necessary teamwork, personal interaction, and supervision that this position requires. Responds to emergency call-ins for hurricanes or other critical events.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Knowledge of first responder response procedures in the event of injury
- Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook, and Excel) and applicable department and organization specific software and ability to learn and become proficient in the use of other specialized software as may be required
- Ability to learn a variety of games and teach others how to play
- Ability to read, update, and maintain various records and files
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
- Ability to clearly communicate and understand information in English, both orally and in writing

- PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Depending on functional area of assignment, tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort usually involving some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (up to 20 pounds). May involve some climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, walking or standing. - ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Tasks are regularly performed inside and/or outside with potential for exposure to adverse conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, fumes and/or poor ventilation, wetness, humidity, rain, temperature and noise extremes, machinery and/or moving vehicles, vibrations, electric currents, animals/wildlife, toxic/poisonous agents, gases or chemicals, oils and other cutting fluids, violence and/or disease, or pathogenic substances. - SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
Tasks require sound and visual perception and discrimination. Tasks require oral communications ability. Must have manual dexterity and be able to perform repetitive motions of the wrists, hands, or fingers. Must be able to perceive color and depth.
