Performs entry-level work in labor-intensive tasks associated to grounds, service, building, custodial, maintenance, construction, irrigation systems, parks, and similar areas. The position is responsible for carrying out assigned duties and may be asked to perform lesser skilled tasks/projects individually or as part of a team depending on the nature of the assigned project or work order. Work is performed under general supervision with limited latitude.
Position exercises some judgment in accordance with well-defined policies, procedures, and techniques.
- Performs a variety of maintenance duties according to the area of assignment, e.g., custodial maintenance, building maintenance, equipment repair; athletic fields/courts maintenance; repair and installation of a variety of mechanical irrigation and electronic system components; roads and sidewalk repair and maintenance; surface water infrastructure maintenance; building and facility repair and maintenance, as related to area of assignment.
- Performs general grounds maintenance, including litter removal, debris cleanup, sweeping, and basic landscaping tasks.
- Assists with routine facility cleaning, including restrooms, common areas, meeting rooms, and outdoor structures.
- Sets up and breaks down rooms, equipment, tables, and chairs for programs, rentals, meetings, and special events.
- Conducts basic inspections of parks and facilities; report damages, safety issues, or needed repairs to supervisors.
- Performs minor maintenance tasks such as replacing light bulbs, tightening fixtures, and simple repairs as assigned.
- Supports staff during events, recreational programs, and facility operations.
- Operate small equipment and tools safely (e.g., leaf blowers, hand tools, custodial equipment).
- Operates a variety of light to medium equipment, e.g., mowers, edgers, weed-eaters, backhoes, chippers, chainsaws, and blowers.
- Loads and unloads materials from distribution vehicles; moves and relocates equipment for special activities.
- Maintains work records regarding observations and solutions, e.g., malfunctioning equipment, materials used, and vendor supply acquisitions.
- Refers to a variety of documentation and materials for instruction and in troubleshooting systems, e.g., plans, schematics, and installation/repair manuals.
- Works independently or as part of a team project effort, depending on area of assignment.
- Ensures adherence to safety and accident prevention standards and regulatory guidelines.
- Assists with setting up/break down of special events; moves and relocates equipment for special activities.
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Minimum QualificationsHigh School Diploma/GED required; supplemented by one (1) year or more experience demonstrating basic skills in the use of a variety of hand tools and maintenance equipment or in the installation and repair of irrigation systems; or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training and/or experience.
Certifications And Licenses- Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Driver’s License and the ability to drive Village-owned vehicle per established policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
- FEMA Certifications (or ability to obtain within 12 months of employment or transfer).
