Engineer, Utilities Administration – Village of Wellington

Job Summary

Performs intermediate-level professional work applying general principles of engineering and technology to assist the Village Engineer in the plan reviews, code compliance reviews and permitting of privately developed projects for the Village. Work involves project management, evaluation, planning, design, construction, inspection, maintenance and operation of the Village’s various engineering and capital improvement projects. Work is performed independently under general supervision with moderate latitude in the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Position typically requires processing and interpreting of less clearly defined issues.

Essential Functions
  • Collects and organizes project data for review by the Utility Director or Senior Engineers.
  • Prepares designs with the use of AutoCAD Civil 3D, Infowater Hydraulic modeling software and Microsoft Office programs.
  • Prepares engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Assists with inspection of construction projects and field tests to ensure compliance with plans and specifications.
  • Assists with plan and code compliance reviews and permitting of privately developed projects for the Village.
  • Prepares routine and specialized reports as required; monitors/maintains logs and records.
  • Maintains a log of work performed, manages workload with concurrent tasks and priorities, sets priorities based on guidance from the Director or Senior Engineer.
Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in related discipline; supplemented by two (2) years of directly related engineering experience; or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training and/or experience.

Certifications And Licenses
  • Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Driver License and the ability to drive a Village owned vehicle per established policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
  • Florida Engineering Intern qualification. Regular attendance at work on-site is essential to maintain the necessary teamwork, personal interaction, and supervision that this position requires. Responds to emergency call‑ins for hurricanes or other critical events.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior municipal experience according to area of assignment.
  • Proficiency in Infowater hydraulic modeling software.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Knowledge of current engineering principles and practices applied in planning, location, design, construction, operation and maintenance of roads, storm and sanitary sewers, buildings and other public facilities.
  • Knowledge of applicable state, county, and Village laws, codes, ordinances, resolutions, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook, and Excel) and applicable department and organization specific software and ability to learn and become proficient in the use of other specialized software as may be required.
  • Skill in the use of hydraulic modeling software, GIS, and AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Skill in using mathematics required for the work.
  • Skill in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Ability to correctly interpret and efficiently implement all applicable policies and procedures.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities to ensure that deadlines are met.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbally and in writing) with residents, coworkers, supervisors, administration, and vendors.
