PLANS

EXAMINER ($29.47 - $49.34) JOB SUMMARY

Performs intermediate-level professional work in plans review for the Village of Wellington (Village). Provides technical expertise to licensed professionals, developers, other Village departments, and the public regarding code and construction requirements for permitting and licensing. Responsible for protecting public safety by performing professional plans review work associated with the daily operations of the Building Department. Work is performed independently under limited supervision with moderate latitude in the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Position typically requires processing and interpreting of more complex, less clearly defined issues.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Examines construction plans and specifications for both residential and commercial structures to ensure compliance with all regulatory standards and building codes governing new and existing construction.
  • Assists and advises the public (architects, contractors, developers, engineers, etc.) and other Wellington departments in matters relating to building construction and code requirements.
  • Provides technical assistance to other department and division staff regarding codes interpretation, permitting functions, inspection requirements, and construction specifications; works collaboratively with department and division staff in resolving regulatory and codes related interpretation and project compliance.
  • Receives, responds, and provides resolution to inquiries and concerns from the public, the business community, Village officials, and other departments regarding department and division related issues.
  • Provides interpretation for non‑compliance with regulatory code(s) and specifies the action necessary to bring conditions to code compliance.
  • Maintains current knowledge of issues, trends, and developments in regulatory standards and building codes requirements governing the construction industry; reviews compliance issues regarding local, state, and federal regulatory construction codes.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

One of the equivalent combinations of education, certification, training and/or experience below:

  • Demonstrates four (4) years combined experience in the field of construction or a related field, building code inspection, or plans review corresponding to the certification category sought. 468.609(2)(c)(1), F.S.
  • Demonstrates a combination of postsecondary education in the field of construction, building experience which totals three (3) years, with at least one (1) year of such total being experience in construction, building code inspection, or plans review. 468.609(2)(c)(2), F.S.
  • Demonstrates a combination of technical education in the field of construction or a related field and experience which totals three (3) years, with at least one (1) year of such total being experience in construction, building code inspection, or plans review. 468.609(2)(c)(3), F.S.
  • Currently holds a standard certificate issued by the board or a fire safety inspector license issued pursuant to Chapter 633, F.S., has a minimum of three (3) years of verifiable experience in inspection or plan review, and satisfactorily completes a building code inspector or plans examiner cross‑training program that provides at least one hundred (100) hours of training in the certification category sought.
