Wellesley Middle School is seeking a certified reading specialist for a 6-week, long-term substitute position, which will run from 02/25/26 through approximately 04/08/26.
In this 1.0 substitute position, you will teach multiple sections of small-group reading intervention for students in grades 6-8. Interventions include work in fluency, decoding, and comprehension. In addition, you will co-teach a grade 6 advisory and one section of a creative writing elective for 8th graders.
Performance responsibilities related to the reading intervention include:
* Providing direct instruction to students identified as eligible for reading intervention in small groups.
* Implementing high-leverage, evidence-based instructional strategies to ensure reading progress.
* Assessing and monitoring student progress weekly, maintaining accurate and complete records of student progress, and supporting the social and emotional needs of students through positive relationship building, appropriate support, and engaging instruction.
* Working collaboratively with the Literacy Coordinator and Department Head of English, alongside fellow reading specialists.
Preferred candidates are certified as a reading specialist and have some experience in this role.
