Minimum Qualifications
  • Must possess a Radiological Technologist license through the West Virginia Board of Radiologic Technologists.
  • Registered in Radiography by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • CPR certification.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Three (3) months of cardiovascular tech experience.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
  • Sets up sterile trays for scheduled cases.
  • Prepares arterial puncture site and creates a sterile field and demonstrates appropriate skin/sterile field prep for each specific procedure.
  • Helps set up dye, monitoring, or flush lines for procedures requiring them.
  • Flushes all catheters, monitoring, or flush lines for procedures requiring them.
  • Directly assists physician performing diagnostic and interventional cardiac and vascular special procedures.
  • Manages the guide wire as directed by the physician by watching the fluoro images.
  • Provides the physician with the proper catheters, in correct sequences, for the procedure.
  • Fills balloon inflation device with approved dye/saline admixture.
  • Exchanges guide wires as directed by physician.
  • Assists physician with placement of vascular closure devices.
  • Assists physician with the placement of pacemakers/AICD using sterile technique.
  • Assist in cardiac holding area:
    Patient preparation prior to procedure and transporting of patients post procedure when needed.
  • Maintains an extensive working knowledge of all equipment used in diagnostic and interventional cardiac/vascular and hybrid OR cases.
  • Maintains a working relationship with OR staff when performing Hybrid cases.
  • Pulls sheath and holds arterial pressure and applies pressure dressing post-procedure. Applies safeguard when necessary.
  • Orders supplies as needed from storeroom and maintain appropriate level of stock to maintain adequate PAR levels for the department.
  • Removes soiled linen from special procedures room and transports contaminated instruments and devices to Central processing for proper sterilization.
  • Charges used items through computer and orders needed supplies from outside vendors (as previously approved).
  • Adheres to all sterile/isolation and OSHA standards.
  • Assists in Fluoroscopy for all procedures.
  • Maintains accurate log books.
  • Ascertains equipment is functioning properly prior to procedure.
  • Maintains personnel exposure at a very low level.
  • Protection is used during radiation procedures.
  • Completes exam and post processing of images in a timely manner.
  • Positions patients properly according to type of procedure, selects proper equipment.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of the Cardiovascular PACS system.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of the GE and Phillips Imaging system.
  • Uses protection on all patients to keep radiation exposure as low as possible.
  • Attends scheduled staff meetings.
  • Provides care and education appropriate to the age of the patients served.
  • Assesses information relative to patient's status and interprets this information to identify the age specific needs of each patient.
Physical Requirements
  • Stand, sit and walk for prolonged periods.
  • Lift, push and pull up to 50 pounds of weight.
  • Carry items of up to 20 pounds.
Working Environment
  • Office & clinical environment.
  • Work in a strong magnetic field.
Skills And Abilities
  • Strong computer skills including email and ability to comprehend and utilize electronic medical record system and PACS systems. Use of MRI equipment, contrast injectors and general office equipment.
  • Exceptional organizational skills.
  • Exceptional communication and follow through skills to work with vendors, physicians, staff and management.
