Job Summary and Qualifications

The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) delivers high quality, patient‑centered care by providing a variety of delegated therapeutic services, in accordance with licensing and regulations. Under the supervision of the primary Occupational Therapist, the COTA Assistant administers therapeutic treatment and engages and supports the patient in therapeutic activities and exercise regimes. The COTA strives to achieve the goals of the physicians plan of care and to support patients throughout the program.

What

you will do in this role:
  • Performs Occupational Therapy interventions based on a treatment plan directed by the Occupational Therapist. Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency in CARE scoring inpatient rehab patients.
  • Executes treatments and adjusts treatment time based on diagnosis and patient need; modifies therapeutic interventions as patient’s abilities, skill changes to meet goals.
  • Responds to acute changes in patient’s status and collaborates with Occupational Therapist to modify treatment techniques as indicated.
  • Documents all therapy interventions according to policy using function scores. Provides patient progress reports to Occupational Therapist. Contribute clinical information and outcomes for Team Conference planning.
  • Assists with preparation of daily schedules and prioritization.
  • Assists with educating patient/family/caregivers about patient medical condition, patient status, treatment plan, medications and possible side effects, and follow‑up measures.
  • Serves as a resource for tech and students.
  • Assumes accountability for promoting consistent, positive patient interactions that advance the agenda of unparalleled patient service.
  • Maintains a patient‑first philosophy and supports the development and implementation of strategies to elevate the patient experience.
