About the RoleThe Cardiac Cath Lab Technician plays multiple roles on the Cardiac Cath Lab team as the Cardiovascular technician during Cardiac Catheterization procedures. In this primary role you will demonstrate technical proficiency in all Cath Lab procedures, apply anatomical and physiological knowledge, and assist the Cardiologist or Electrophysiologist with cardiac patient care. You will maintain good communication with the Cath Lab team to ensure proper equipment setup, accurate monitoring, and quality data collection.
Responsibilities- Demonstrate technical proficiency for all cardiac catheterization procedures while functioning as a Cardiac Cath Lab Technician or Hemodynamic Recorder.
- Consistently and correctly identify cardiac structures, coronary vasculature, and associated disease processes.
- Practice radiation safety and observe all ALARA principles. Demonstrate knowledge of Texas Bureau of Radiation Control regulations and Methodist Radiation Safety Committee requirements, and properly use and store personal radiation badges.
- Assist the physician in obtaining or entering data into the Physiologic Monitoring System(s) for accurate assessment of left and/or right‑sided hemodynamic pressure measurements, and for calculating intra‑cardiac shunts, valve areas, and pressure measurements throughout the catheter path.
- Accurately report ejection fraction by demonstrating proficiency in the assessment of cardiac function using Left Ventricular Analysis program(s). Understand the disease processes that result in depressed cardiac function such as coronary artery disease, cardiomyopathy, myocardial infarction, and valvular disorders.
- Consistently assure that angiographic and procedural data is properly archived for long‑term storage, verifying the presence of all components of procedure information in both hard‑copy and computerized formats.
- Two (2) years full‑time Invasive Cardiovascular Technology experience required:
- Associate Degree or equivalent (62 semester hours) in health, science, natural science, nursing, engineering, or any primary science or higher AND one (1) year of full‑time or full‑time equivalent Invasive Cardiovascular Technology experience.
- Baccalaureate degree in health, science, natural science, nursing, engineering, or any primary science AND six (6) months of full‑time or full‑time equivalent Invasive Cardiovascular Technology experience.
- A graduate of an accredited (CHEA, USDOE, or CMA) program in Invasive Cardiovascular Technology, or a graduate of a non‑programmatically accredited program with a minimum of one (1) year of specialty training and at least 800 clinical hours.
- Minimum License, Certifications, or Registrations
Required:
New hires must have one of the following certifications:- RCIS (Registered Cardiac Invasive Specialist) from CCI (Cardiovascular Credentialing International)
