The Town of Webster is seeking a 3A or higher licensed wastewater treatment plant operator to become a new Wastewater Treatment Plant Officer. This is a skilled position responsible for the efficient performance of active regular on-site operational functions at a Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plant, with facilities for chemical precipitation, sludge vacuum filtration, sludge incineration, separate sludge digestion, or any other biological oxidation process, including activated sludge, and the stabilization or oxidation process.

Lead supervision may be exercised over employees in the performance of their assigned duties. Does related work as required.

Typical Duties: (other duties as assigned)

• Starts and stops pumps, motors, air compressors, and related machinery and equipment;
• Makes minor repairs to machinery and equipment;
• Records readings from meters and gauges;
• Treats and disposes of sludge;
• Operates trickling filters;
• Adds chlorine to sewage;
• Takes samples of sewage for testing;
• Makes necessary tests for control of plant operation;
• Assists in the training of Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Trainees;
• Keeps a log of plant operations and related records;
• Performs custodial duties in connection with maintenance of buildings and grounds.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Possession of a New York State DEC 3A of higher wastewater treatment plant operator certification.

* Applicants must have permanent competitive status as a Wastewater Treatment Plan Operator and be eligible for civil service transfer
