TITLE OF POSITION

Occupational Therapist

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Certificate of registration as an Occupational Therapist issued by the Missouri Board of Occupational Therapy
  • At least one year of experience, as an Occupational Therapist, in a school setting.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES Direct Services
  • Evaluates clients through activity and specific evaluation tools to decide if he/she is appropriate to receive services. All evaluation methods shall be appropriate to the chronological age and functional level of the client. The method may include, but not be limited to, observation of activity performance, interview, record review, and testing.
  • Prepares appropriate treatment planning for the client and coordinates treatment with occupational therapist.
  • Provides treatment on an individual or group basis, and decides on duration and length of time of the sessions as appropriate for client.
  • Schedules treatment sessions in coordination with teacher and speech/language therapists.
  • Administers re-evaluation of client as necessary. Analyzing and summarizing client s performance and changes. Adapts program as necessary to meet client s needs.
  • Records daily or weekly progress of client.
  • Prepares written work professionally and in a timely manner; meets deadlines (written work includes initial evaluation, ILP, mid-year report and an end-of-year checklist).
  • Discusses evaluation findings and other pertinent information with appropriate staff, administration, and family.
  • Attends initial ILP, IEP review, parent/staff conferences, learner profiles and other meetings related to client that therapist is responsible for.
  • Consult with other staff involved in client s program to ensure continuity of care (i.e., management program).
  • Work with family and other significant caretaker concerning appropriate home program.
  • In collaboration with administration, family and significant others, formulates appropriate discharge and follow-up plans.
  • Uses a problem-solving approach to making decisions. Is able to identify problems, identify solutions, select alternatives, implement and check on solutions and adjust.
  • Utilizes appropriate channels of communication or lines of authority to report difficult problems.
  • Knows own limitations and seeks guidance in decision-making as appropriate.
  • Communicates both intra- and interdepartmentally to coordinate activities and assist in resolution of problems with staff relations and patient care.
  • Performs all other responsibilities as assigned
Professional Growth
  • Plans, implements, evaluates and updates programming on a continual basis. When developing or becoming aware of new methods or techniques, integrates them into existing procedures.
  • Shows evidence of increasing ability through experiences and efforts in self-education.
  • Participates in and conducts in-service training; orients other disciplines to occupational therapy services.
  • Represents profession throughout the school and in community relations.
  • Ability to adapt to new and existing situations.
  • Able to receive constructive criticism and willingly initiates change.
Use of Resources
  • Consistently makes effective and economical use of all available resources (e.g., manpower, time, equipment, supplies, and space)
  • Oversees maintenance, care and upkeep of clinic equipment and supplies
  • Anticipates needs for and oversees ordering of supplies and equipment and reports needs to appropriate personnel
Implement Sensory Integration Approach

Prevent or diminish sensory integrative dysfunction or enhance sensory integrative development through:

  • Sensory input techniques for visual, auditory, olfactory, tactile, proprioceptive/kinesthetic, and vestibular stimulation
  • Facilitation techniques
  • Inhibition techniques
  • Activity to promote motor response
