Program Duration
The Summer Academy program runs from May 30, 2026 to July 10, 2026, spanning Sunday through Thursday.
- RAs must participate in the end-of-summer college tour trip from July 8th to 10th, with accommodations and meals provided.
- Job hours are from 4:00 pm to 11:00 am on Sunday through Wednesday and 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Thursday.
- Resident Assistants are required to live in the residence hall with UB participants for 24‑hour supervision.
- Additional hours may be needed for planning evening activities and responding to emergencies.
- Develop positive and supportive relationships with Upward Bound students, mentoring them on academic, personal, social, and college/career concerns.
- Assist in establishing and maintaining a positive and safe environment in the UB residence hall for students and staff, creating a positive atmosphere that appreciates all students.
- Assist with planning, leading, implementing and participating in free‑time structured activities for the residents.
- Assist in supervision of participants at recreation, co‑curricular activities, and meals.
- Provide academic assistance to students (either in a group or in an individual setting) in achieving a better understanding of specific subject material and improving academic capabilities in designated areas. In addition, assist program participants in the completion and review of homework and in‑class assignments.
- Assist in monitoring students’ arrival on Sundays and departure on Thursday.
- Lead and/or accompany students to and from activities in WC vehicles, as necessary.
- Maintain student confidentiality as appropriate.
- Assist in handling and/or referring student disciplinary issues, crises and personal issues to appropriate staff.
- Maintain program rules and expectations by reinforcing and implementing the policies in the WC Upward Bound Handbook.
- Meet with UB Resident Director and/or Program Director daily/weekly to ascertain participant’s progress and address any concerns including but not limited to inappropriate student behavior and violations of UB rules and regulations.
- Participation in training workshop prior to start of summer component.
- Complete documentation and reports as assigned.
- This position requires occasional sitting, frequent walking up to a mile or more at times, standing and driving a WC vehicle.
- Majority of work is performed indoors in a controlled climate as well as outdoors during summer weather elements.
- Other duties as assigned.
- RAs must live on the Weatherford Campus from Sunday through Thursday.
- Living accommodations are provided.
- Meals are provided.
- RAs can hold an additional part‑time job or attend classes as long as it does not interfere with evening responsibilities or travel obligations.
- The position requires a satisfactory criminal history background check.
- Male applicants between 18 and 25 must be properly registered with the Selective Service System for employment eligibility.

Position SummaryThis title may be used for departmental short‑term assignments/projects. The hourly rate is dependent upon duties performed. Maximum hours eligible to work per week will be determined on a case‑by‑case basis and will be dependent upon a full‑time equivalent.
Required EducationCurrently enrolled in college or a college graduate (preference given to upperclassmen). Preferably have completed at least two full academic semesters and must be in good academic standing.
Required Experience- Positive attitude and the ability to work effectively with and display sensitivity toward a wide range of ethnic, socioeconomic, cultural and lifestyle differences among staff and student participants.
