Qualifications
- Required Experience:
3 years experience teaching at the college level in a divisional area. Must also have demonstrated two years of experience leading an instructional work unit. - Preferred Experience:
Doctorate with 5 years experience leading a department or divisional area.
- Acts as an advisor to the Executive Vice President of Academic Services in matters of college policies and procedures.
- Formulates educational policies and procedures, presenting them to the Executive Vice President of Academic Services.
- Directs the development, implementation, and evaluation of the learner-centered curriculum and the performance indicators of the division with an emphasis on quality of instruction and innovation in the learning environment.
- Coordinates work unit development in conjunction with the Academic Master Plan, Strategic Goals, and institutional priorities.
- Collaborates with mid-level and upper-management to ensure alignment of work unit activities with the institution’s mission and strategic goals.
- Supervises curriculum, assessment of student learning, courses, and methods of instruction, and evaluates instruction.
- Manages the division’s faculty and staff and recommends hiring, promotion, advancement, and retention. Appoints and evaluates department/program chairs and directors, evaluates the division’s support staff, and administers personnel procedures.
- Manages faculty utilization and workload. Ensures that qualified faculty members are available for staffing of courses.
- Directs and coordinates the college’s educational partnerships including transfer activities and dual credit.
- Oversights all modes of instructional delivery (face-to-face, hybrid, and online) within the Academic Division.
- Develops faculty load units and payroll notification reports.
- Responsible for approval of payroll notifications.
- Develops, recommends, implements, and administers the annual division budget. Monitors program expenditures to ensure compliance with approved budget. Oversees procurement, usage, and disposition of division resources.
- Approves all requisitions for instructional supplies and equipment.
- Approves faculty travel in conjunction with the Executive Vice President of Academic Services.
- Facilitates responsiveness of support services to meet the needs of the division faculty, staff and students.
- Presides over divisional meetings.
- Directs the attention of faculty members to changing educational thought and practice, particularly as they affect higher education.
- Recommends and implements new programs, marketing, promotion, recruitment, and retention strategies for programs in the division in cooperation with the Executive Vice President, Institutional Advancement and community leaders and organizations.
- Approves divisional class schedules, schedule changes, and class cancellations.
- Schedules use of all classrooms in conjunction with the Institutional Scheduler.
- Inspects classrooms and equipment routinely to ensure an environment conducive to learning for WC students and faculty.
- Makes recommendations for improvements of the physical plant as it relates to the educational programs.
- Submits required reports and provides specific information to college administrators and regulatory bodies as requested.
- Serves as a member of standing college councils, committees, and task forces.
- Advises on the appointment of administrative committees.
- Prepares reports of various kinds relating to personnel problems of the faculty and staff.
- Meets with departmental chairs and directors on a regular basis.
- Verifies that official transcript(s) and application forms are received on all faculty members.
- Makes exceptions in courses required for graduation in conjunction with the Executive Vice President of Academic Services.
- Prepares the Faculty Handbook in conjunction with the Executive Vice President of Academic Services and Assistant Vice President, Student Services.
- Performs other duties as may be assigned according to deadline.
