ELEMENTARY PRINCIPAL: WILLIAM PERRY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The William Perry Elementary School Principal serves as the instructional leader and chief administrator of the school, responsible for ensuring high levels of student achievement, equity, and continuous improvement. The Principal leads the development, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive instructional program aligned with the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL), the Standards of Accreditation, and School Board policies, while fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for all students.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Hold a Postgraduate Professional License issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia with an endorsement in Administration and Supervision (PK-12)
- Minimum of five (5) years of successful, full-time experience as a teacher, supervisor, or administrator, with at least two (2) years in an administrative role.
- Demonstrated knowledge of effective instructional practices, data-driven decision-making, and continuous school improvement aligned with VDOE expectations.
- Demonstrated ability to utilize instructional and administrative technology to support teaching, learning, assessment, and operational efficiency.
- Strong organizational, management, and leadership skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead diverse school communities and to promote equitable access, opportunity, and outcomes for all students.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, families, and community stakeholders.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Elementary Principal shall:
Instructional Leadership and School Improvement
- Lead the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the School Improvement Plan in alignment with division goals, the Virginia Standards of Accreditation, and continuous improvement practices.
- Provide instructional leadership to ensure effective, research-based teaching practices that meet the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral needs of all students.
- Promote the use of multiple data sources to inform instruction, intervention, enrichment, and program evaluation, with a focus on closing achievement gaps and improving outcomes for historically underserved student groups.
- Supervise instruction through classroom observations, feedback, and coaching to improve instructional quality and student achievement.
- Foster an inclusive, respectful, and culturally responsive school climate that supports equity, belonging, and high expectations for all students.
- Ensure equitable access to rigorous instruction, intervention supports, enrichment opportunities, and extracurricular activities.
- Promote fair, consistent, and developmentally appropriate student discipline practices aligned with division policies and state guidelines.
- Work collaboratively with staff, families, and community partners to address barriers to student learning and well-being.
- Supervise, evaluate, and support certified and classified staff in accordance with School Board policy, administrative regulations, and VDOE evaluation requirements.
- Support professional growth through targeted feedback, professional learning, and individualized improvement plans aligned with division priorities.
- Collaborate with the Human Resources Department in identifying staffing needs and participating in the recruitment, selection, assignment, promotion, transfer, non-renewal, and dismissal of personnel.
- Promote positive, professional working relationships among staff members and foster a culture of collaboration and shared leadership.
- Oversee student registration, scheduling, placement, orientation, and the development of the master schedule to support effective instruction and equitable access to programs.
- Assign students to classes and programs designed to maximize learning and meet individual student needs.
- Supervise student activities and athletic programs, ensuring safety, compliance, and appropriate student conduct at all school-sponsored events.
- Promote effective two-way communication between home and school by providing meaningful opportunities for parent and family engagement.
- Encourage partnerships with community agencies, businesses, and social service organizations to support student learning and well-being.
- Support appropriate community use of school facilities in accordance with School Board policy.
- Develop and manage the school budget in alignment with division instructional priorities, ensuring fiscal responsibility and accurate accounting of all school funds.
- Ensure proper care, safety, utilization, and appearance of school facilities and grounds.
- Ensure implementation and compliance with School Board policies, administrative regulations, and state and federal requirements.
