Job DescriptionQUALIFICATIONS:
- Hold Collegiate Professional Certificate with appropriate endorsement.
- Demonstrate the professional and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, parents, school personnel and members of the community.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
JOB GOAL:
To enable English Learner students the opportunity to attain both English proficiency and parity of participation in the standard instructional program.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Identify specific English language services needed for students and provide evidence-based practices and educationally sound instruction to meet students’ needs.
- Implement effective instructional strategies that results in acceptable, measurable, and appropriate student academic progress.
- Plan a program of instruction that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of the students.
- Provide students with the support they need to attain parity of participation in the standard instructional program.
- Evaluate each student in terms of initial needs and progress toward meeting set goals.
- Monitor and report student progress.
- Support students in identifying sources of support within the school building.
- Provide opportunities for students to share and explore cultural differences.
- Implement effective classroom management strategies.
- Work closely with other teachers to help students maintain classwork.
- Help parents understand the specific educational needs of students and the goals and operation of the program, apprising them of problems and progress.
- Participate in case conferences about educational needs of students.
- Perform functions to facilitate communication pertinent to the educational program.
- Keep abreast of new developments in the field of instructing English Language Learners and discuss problems of mutual interest with other resource teachers.
- Meet and instruct at the times designated.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, division policy, and administrative procedures.
- Assist the administration in implementing all requirements for meeting State and Federal guidelines for instructing English Language Learners.
- Make provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
- Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as appropriate to the individual school site or division.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Ten month year. Salary and work year to be established by the Board.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
Job Requirements- Bachelor degree preferred.
