Education and Experience Required- Minimum 60 college credits or a passing score on the Para Pro Assessment.
- Must be capable of assisting students with special needs as required, including, but not limited to, positioning, lifting, transferring, and restraining.
- Three to five years of prior paraprofessional or teaching experience is preferred.
- Teacher substitute license is preferred, but not required.
School Administrator in conjunction with Student Support Services administrators.
Job GoalUnder the supervision of the building principals and/or Student Support Services administration and the oversight of a certified teacher or other certified staff, such as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), the Program Lead Paraprofessional assists/reinforces student instruction, behavior, social skills, community-based instruction, and activities of daily living. The Program Lead Paraprofessional will implement various evidence-based practices and interventions, including running discrete trials, using task analyses, naturalistic interventions, functional communication training, prompting techniques, collecting related data, tracking trends, and adjusting instruction accordingly.
The Program Lead Paraprofessional will model/coach support staff such as 1:1 and/or shared paraprofessional.
- Monitors and provides assistance/oversight during arrival and dismissal routine and collects data on arrival/dismissal if indicated in the student's Behavior Improvement Plan (BIP) or Individualized Education Program (IEP). Ensures that students get from the bus to the classroom and from the classroom to the bus each day.
- Supports students by reinforcing personal, social, behavioral, and academic learning goals as outlined in the IEP or BIP. This may include assisting students with self-care tasks in the areas of eating, dressing, and toileting.
- Escorts students to restrooms and provides assistance when necessary. Depending on assignment, diapering and direct facilitation of toileting may be required to promote independence.
- Assists with classroom management including, but not limited to, providing verbal praise/access to token board/positive behavioral supports to encourage and reinforce positive behaviors.
- Supports student participation in class activities by providing visual reminders or visual schedules for students to access.
- Promotes student independence, fading support when appropriate, as outlined in the IEP and/or BIP.
- Facilitates student use of Assistive Technology.
- Assists school staff in maintaining a safe and effective learning environment for academic and non-academic settings (i.e., lunchrooms, study halls, playgrounds, buses, extracurricular activities).
- Communicates with the Classroom Teacher, Child Study Team, BCBAs and/or Related Service Provider. Works collaboratively with other Program Lead paraprofessionals and all colleagues as applicable.
- Reviews IEPs and BIPs of assigned students with the Child Study Team and/or certificated teacher and other certificated staff.
- Accepts field trips, before and after school assignments, as needed.
- Models for and coaches support staff such as 1:1 and/or shared paraprofessionals within the program.
- Works the same hours as the certificated staff within their school assignment.
- Maintains confidentiality of students at all times.
- Adheres to the district's Paraprofessional Handbook.
- Performs other related duties as required or requested by the classroom teacher or administration.
All certificated staff in-service days found on the district approved school calendar. Attend a two day Summer Academy prior to the start of the school year. Training will be ongoing throughout the calendar.
