Senior Accounts Receivable Accountant
Department: Finance / Accounting
Reports To: Controller
The Senior Accounts Receivable Accountant is responsible for overseeing the full-cycle accounts receivable function, ensuring accurate revenue recording, regulatory compliance, and timely collections. This role plays a critical part in multi-state sales tax compliance, general ledger integrity, and cross-border financial communication. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting knowledge, multi-state tax experience, and bilingual Spanish proficiency to support international operations and corporate reporting requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee and manage the full-cycle accounts receivable process
- Review and approve customer invoices for accuracy, proper tax application, and compliance with contractual terms
- Prepare and file multi-state sales tax reports, with particular focus on California and New York compliance requirements
- Ensure proper sales tax calculation and reporting on all applicable invoices
- Monitor aging reports and proactively manage collections to minimize Days Sales Outstanding (DSO)
- Resolve complex billing discrepancies, chargebacks, and disputes
- Perform monthly AR subledger to general ledger reconciliations
- Complete general ledger reconciliations related to month-end allocations and revenue postings
- Prepare journal entries for revenue, cash applications, adjustments, and bad debt reserves
- Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes
- Prepare AR analytics, reporting packages, and cash flow forecasts for management
- Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, sales, tax advisors, and international finance teams
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
- 5+ years of progressive experience in accounts receivable or general accounting
- Experience handling multi-state sales tax filings (required)
- Experience with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar)
Skills &
Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and revenue recognition principles
- Demonstrated experience with multi-state sales tax compliance
- Bilingual fluency in Spanish (written and verbal) required
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, XLOOKUP, Power Query preferred)
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to manage international communication across time zones
- On-time month-end close
- Minimal write-offs and audit findings
