Security Monitor
Location: Wayland Baptist University (WBU) – San Antonio Campus
Supervisor: Security Coordinator

General ResponsibilitiesThe Assistant Security Monitor (ASM) serves as the first person people see when entering the WBU facility at Live Oak, TX. The ASM proctors all persons entering the building, ensuring that they are in possession of required identification for access to the campus. The ASM will be the first point of contact and will direct visitors to the appropriate offices, classrooms, and other locations.
SpecificTasks and Duties
- Coordinates activities with the Campus Security Coordinator
- Greets all people entering the building to ensure only legitimate visitors enter
- Establishes and implements the unit’s policies, goals, objectives, and procedures, conferring with the Campus Security Coordinator as necessary
- Builds relationships with people outside the organization, representing the organization to customers, the public, government, corporations, and other external sources
- Helps develop and maintain the university’s corporate image and identity
- Enforces policies and procedures designed to ensure that the campus and university fulfills the mission
- Reviews all policies concerning safety and security of all personnel. Serves as a liaison with the Live Oak Police Department if additional resources are needed
- Assists the Campus Security Coordinator with safety and security orientation for new staff and faculty
- Assists in planning, implementing and controlling all non-WBU activities at the campus
- Assists with campus safety and security issues
- Performs other related duties as required

Minimum Qualifications- Education:
High School Diploma
- Experience in a university setting, familiar with all aspects of the day-to-day ins and outs of the lobby and the building area
- A deep commitment to Christian Higher Education and agreement with the purposes and philosophy of higher education as promoted by the Baptist General Convention of Texas in general and WBU in particular
- An understanding of and commitment to work with educational programs related to churches, businesses, industries, and the military
- Understand basic principles of safety and security within a university level building and facility
- Knowledge of all aspects of the operations of a university facility
- Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests
- The ability to communicate effectively
- Must possess good computer application skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and Power Point
- Must be detail-oriented and have good organizational skills
- Ability to be flexible, prioritize and be available to work extended hours as needed
- Ability to follow directions and work cooperatively with others
- Service orientation – actively looks for ways to help people and solve their problems
Employment is subject to an introductory period to monitor employee performance. Employee must be able to work as a team player, work indoors and in an environmentally controlled office area with fluorescent lighting, and on occasion work outdoors, be exact and accurate, pay very close attention to detail, and have transportation to and from work. The qualified applicant must be able to work flexible hours as needed.
