Position Summary

The Lead WSCP Nurse provides clinical leadership, coordination, and direct nursing services for all WSCP after-school, vacation, and summer programs. This role ensures full compliance with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH), DESE OST regulations, and district policies, while supervising and supporting WSCP nursing staff.

The Lead WSCP Nurse serves as the primary medical authority for WSCP programs, oversees medication delegation and complex health needs, and acts as the liaison between families, staff, healthcare providers, and district partners.

Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership & Program Oversight

• Serve as the lead nurse for all WSCP-operated programs, including BASE, vacation programs, enrichment, and summer programming.
• Supervise, orient, train, and support WSCP nursing staff, including RNs, LPNs, and float nurses.
• Develop, implement, and maintain nursing protocols, delegation plans, and health procedures specific to WSCP programming.
• Coordinate nursing coverage across multiple sites to ensure compliance with student health needs and staffing requirements.
• Lead and oversee compliance efforts for students with complex and high-risk medical needs, including seizure disorders, diabetic management, emergency medications, rectal or IV medications, and other medically intensive care requirements, in accordance with state regulations and district protocols.

Student Health & Medical Services

• Assess, triage, and provide nursing care for students with illness or injury during WSCP hours.
• Administer medications in accordance with physician orders, district policy, and state regulations.
• Develop and maintain Individualized Health Care Plans (IHCPs) and emergency action plans.
• Ensure safe management of students with chronic or complex medical conditions.
• Support inclusion programming by collaborating with WSCP staff, families, and special education teams.

Training & Staff Support

• Train WSCP staff in:
• Medication administration and delegation
• Epi Pen, inhaler, and emergency response protocols
• Universal precautions and health safety procedures
• Ensure required certifications and documentation are current.
• Provide ongoing consultation and coaching to program coordinators, WSCP nurses, and staff.

Compliance, Documentation & Reporting

• Ensure WSCP compliance with:
• MDPH regulations
• DESE OST licensing requirements
• District health policies
• Maintain accurate student health records, medication logs, and incident reports.
• Prepare and submit required health documentation and reports.
• Maintain health room supplies and emergency equipment across WSCP sites.

Communication & Collaboration

• Serve as the primary point of contact for health-related concerns within WSCP.
• Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student health needs.
• Collaborate with school-day nurses, district administrators, and community healthcare providers.
• Participate in meetings, trainings, and planning sessions as required.
• Maintain a positive environment in the health room and communicate with students, parents, staff, and administrators.
• Interpret school health regulations to administrators, staff, and parents.

Professional Responsibilities

• Maintain current licensure and certifications.
• Participate in professional development related to school nursing, public health, and OST compliance.
• Uphold confidentiality and professional standards at all times.
• Perform other related duties as assigned to support program safety and success.

Required Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Massachusetts
• CPR, First Aid, and Epi Pen certification (or ability to obtain)
• Authorization to provide medication delegation training
• Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills
• Ability to work independently across multiple sites
• Successful completion of CORI, SORI, and fingerprinting
• Citizenship, residency, or work visa required

Preferred Qualifications

• Over three (3) years of experience in public health nursing or community health nursing experience; prior supervisory experience and familiarity with public health, emergency preparedness, and school nursing programs are highly preferred.
• Supervisory or lead nursing experience
• Familiarity with DESE OST and after-school program environments
• Experience supporting students with complex medical needs
• DESE School Nurse licensure preferred, and/or with demonstrated experience in school or community health settings.

Work Schedule and Compensation

• Hourly Rate: $40.62 - $45.96
• Full-time. Schedule aligned with school year, vacation programs, and summer sessions
• Minimum of 25 hours per week; up to 30 hours per week as the program needs require. Flexibility to support multiple sites is essential.
