Title:
MATH DEPARTMENT HEAD (.4 FTE) AND MATH TEACHER (.6 FTE)
Position Summary:
Wayland Public Schools seeks a visionary instructional leader and expert practitioner to serve as the High School Math Department Head and Classroom Teacher. This dual role requires a candidate who can balance high-level administrative oversight-including staff evaluation and curriculum mapping-with an active, student-centered teaching load. The successful candidate will drive departmental excellence through a lens of anti-racist pedagogy, data-informed instruction, and collaborative leadership within the High School Instructional Leadership Team.

Duties & Responsibilities
* Supervision and Evaluation:
Conduct formal and informal observations; provide high-leverage instructional coaching to a diverse staff of veteran and novice teachers. Contribute to formative and summative evaluations in alignment with the Massachusetts Educator Evaluation Framework.
* Professional Learning Communities (PLCs):
Design and facilitate data-driven and collaborative department meetings to analyze student performance trends, support professional growth, and refine instructional practices.
* Curriculum Alignment:
Ensure a rigorous and aligned sequence of math courses for all learners, including a seamless transition from Middle School to High School.
* Master Scheduling:
Collaborate with building leadership to determine staffing needs, section counts, and teacher assignments based on student enrollment.
* Budgetary Oversight:
Manage the department's annual budget, prioritizing equitable access to technology (e.g., TI-Nspire, Desmos) and modern instructional materials.
* Closing Opportunity Gaps:
Implement strategies specifically designed to support the academic success of historically minoritized students and those with IEPs/504s.
* Community Relations:
Act as the primary liaison for parent concerns, ensuring transparent communication regarding course placements and grading policies.
* Building Leadership:
Work collaboratively with the High School Instructional Leadership Team to drive school improvement in the district-identified areas of student achievement, equity and belonging, and social-emotional learning.
* Perform teaching all classes assigned by the Principal and carry out other essential duties as may be required
Qualifications
* Proven track record of high student achievement in the field of mathematics with a focus on struggling learners
* Proficiency in using Edwin Analytics, Open Architect, or similar student information systems to track growth and identify achievement disparities.
* Mastery of differentiated instruction so that all learners may be successful in the classroom.
* Mastery of instructional technology, specifically the use of dynamic graphing software and 1:1 classroom environments.
* Minimum of 3-5 years of successful classroom teaching plus demonstrated leadership experience in formal leadership roles or as a teacher leader.
Educational & Professional Requirements
* Advanced Degree:
Master's degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or Educational Leadership required.
* DESE Licensure:
Must hold valid Massachusetts licensure in:
* Mathematics (8-12)
Supervisor/Director (or Principal/Assistant Principal) desired
* SEI Endorsement:
Evidence of Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement is mandatory.
Salary Range:
Commensurate with the WTA Salary Scale (inclusive of Department Head stipend and additional work days) Example:
Master's through Master's +30 range $95,754 -$126,651
Work Schedule:
The contract year for Department Heads will begin September 1 and end June 30.
