Title:
Long-Term Substitute, Elementary Special Education for a Language Based Classroom
Position Summary:
The Special Educator provides direct instruction, case management, and service coordination for students with special needs in accordance with Chapter 766 and P.L. 94-142. This role includes consultation and collaboration with general education teachers and related service providers to ensure effective implementation of IEPs.
We are seeking a Special Educator experienced in teaching students with dyslexic profile in grades 3-5 across both subseparate and inclusion settings. Wilson Reading System certification is preferred; candidates with strong expertise in structured, multi-sensory phonics-based literacy instruction aligned with the Science of Reading, are encouraged to apply. The educator will collaborate with a reading specialist and three teaching assistants to design and deliver specialized, language-based instruction.
Services are delivered through a resource room model and include academic support, executive functioning instruction, co-teaching in general education classrooms, and small-group or individual pull-out services. Students served present with mild to moderate disabilities across a range of needs.
Duties and Responsibilities (Not limited to):
* Create an inclusive, equitable classroom environment that fosters belonging and high expectations for all students.
* Provide specialized instruction aligned with IEP goals in resource, inclusion, and pull-out settings.
* Plan and implement structured, language-based literacy instruction and targeted interventions.
* Monitor student progress using formal and informal assessments; adjust instruction accordingly.
* Lead and manage the IEP process, including evaluations, TEAM meetings, IEP development, and progress reporting.
* Collaborate with general educators, specialists, counseling staff, ESL staff, and administration to support student success.
* Communicate regularly and effectively with families/caregivers.
* Supervise and direct Teaching Assistants supporting students on the caseload.
* Participate actively in grade-level, PLC, department, and district initiatives.
* Provide professional learning or consultation to staff as needed.
* Maintain an organized, safe, and accessible classroom environment.
* Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or Director of Student Services.
Physical and
Work Environment Requirements :
The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation. Duties include communicating effectively; operating standard school technology; moving throughout school environments; supervising student safety; multitasking; and lifting up to 25 lbs. The work environment noise level ranges from moderate to loud.
Qualifications:
* Citizenship, residency, or work visa required
* Successful completion of C.O.R.I., S.O.R.I., and fingerprinting
Education and Experience:
* Bachelor's degree required;
Master's degree in Special Education preferred
* MA DESE licensure in Special Education (appropriate grade level)
* MA DESE SEI Endorsement
* Wilson Reading or Orton-Gillingham certification highly desirable
* Experience teaching students with disabilities in diverse public school settings preferred
* Experience with language-based/dyslexia instruction and executive functioning support
* Experience collaborating in inclusive classroom settings
* Familiarity with Google Suite and Power School preferred
Knowledge and
Skills:
* Strong understanding of student-centered pedagogy and inclusive practices
* Knowledge of Massachusetts curriculum standards and UDL principles
* Ability to analyze assessment data to inform instruction
* Experience developing and implementing IEPs and behavior plans
* Understanding of state and federal special education regulations
* Commitment to diversity, equity, belonging, and social justice
Salary Range:
Compensation for this position will be in accordance with the Wayland Public Schools Substitute Pay Guidelines varying from $100-$250 per day
Work Schedule:
Beginning 04/14/2026-06/23/2026, Full-Time, 7:45am-2:45pm
