Title:
ELA Teacher, Wayland Middle School
Position Summary:
The Middle School Teacher serves as the classroom leader, creating a welcoming, inclusive, and equitable learning environment that supports students' academic, social, and emotional development. The teacher designs and delivers engaging instruction aligned with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and district standards, fosters curiosity and belonging, and collaborates with colleagues, families, and leadership to ensure student success and equitable access to opportunity.
Teaching Responsibilities
* Develop and deliver engaging, rigorous instruction aligned with Massachusetts ELA Curriculum Frameworks, including:
* Close reading and analysis of literary and informational texts
* Evidence-based analytical, narrative, and expository writing
* Vocabulary development and command of language conventions
* Speaking and listening skills through discussion, presentation, and collaboration
* Research skills and ethical use of sources
* Use of professional creativity and judgment in text selection, unit design, and instructional approach, within the scope of departmental goals and school values
* Nurturing the independent reading practice of all students and the maintenance of a robust classroom library.
* Differentiating instruction to support a wide range of learners, using flexible grouping, scaffolds, and extension opportunities.
* Use of formative and summative assessments to inform instruction and provide clear, supportive feedback.
* Cultivating a classroom culture that encourages voice, inquiry, respectful disagreement, and intellectual courage.
Duties and Responsibilities (Not limited to):
* Create a classroom environment that promotes belonging, equity, and high expectations
* Deliver standards-based instruction in applicable content and SEL areas
* Monitor student progress and adjust instruction, materials, and assessments as needed
* Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning, and modify instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conduct individual and/or small group instruction as needed.
* Maintain strong content knowledge and current instructional practices
* Collaborate with grade-level teams, PLCs, and district staff to support student learning
* Partner with special education, ESL, counseling, and clinical staff as needed
* Communicate effectively with families to support academic and social-emotional growth. Contact parents routinely to discuss student successes and areas of concern.
* Participate in school and district initiatives and professional development
* Support efforts to address systemic barriers to equitable opportunities
* Contribute to the broader life of the school, including student support, community event, and shared initiatives.
* Commit to building strong, respectful relationships with students and families
Qualifications:
* Citizenship, residency, or valid work visa required
* Successful completion of Criminal Records Check (C.O.R.I.), Sexual Offender Record Check (S.O.R.I.), and fingerprinting
* Strong understanding of pre/adolescent academic, social, and emotional development
* Knowledge of student-centered teaching practices and heterogeneous classroom instruction
* Familiarity with Massachusetts Standards-Based curriculum, UDL principles, and SEL supports
* Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills
* Ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
* Commitment to diversity, equity, belonging, and social justice
* Bilingual skills desirable
Education and Experience:
* Bachelor's degree in education or related field required;
Master's degree preferred
* MA DESE Licensure or eligibility (5-8) in applicable field required
* SEI Endorsement required
* Dual licensure in Special Education or ESL highly desirable
* Experience teaching in a diverse public middle school preferred
* Experience working with students with disabilities and English language learners preferred
* Experience with Google Suite and Power School preferred; training available
* Alternative degrees or experience may be considered at the discretion of the Superintendent

Salary Range:
Salary is determined in accordance with the WEA-A Salary Scale and is based on years of relevant, licensed experience as outlined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
Work Schedule:
185 days per year Monday-Friday 8:15am - 3:30pm
