Responsibilities:- Move, set up and adjust equipment and select rods to perform assigned work.
- Prepare surfaces for welding: burn, gauge, fit, tack and weld as necessary to complete repair (e.g., splices, patches, shims, cracks).
- Locate and test areas to be welded for leaks using soap suds and air rechecking as necessary (e.g., coils).
- Finish welds by removing slag and grinding when necessary.
- Use jacks to remove trucks, position cars for tank rolls, disassemble to repair or gain access to parts, and reassemble as required.
- Assist other workers in placing, fitting and attaching parts as assigned.
- Remove, replace, layout, burn, shape, ream and straighten required components for tank shell, fittings, couplers, gears, underframe, safety appliances, insulation jacket and related components.
- Perform minor layouts required in the performance of prescribed duties.
- Lubricate and make minor repairs to assigned small power, mechanical and hand tools, replacing broken and worn parts; lubricate, gauge and adjust car parts as necessary.
- Maintain certification per AWS D15.1.
- Communicate with supervisor as needed.
- Keep work area clean and orderly.
- Comply with established safety policies and support continuous safety awareness; recommend specific changes and improvements to health and safety policies and programs.
- Install, test, repair or renew interior and exterior coils, coil cradles and brackets.
- Use drawings and sketches to layout coil, bracket and valve locations.
- Reface seating surfaces; exclude machining of surfaces.
- Install, test, repair or renew miscellaneous tank fittings such as safety vent, outlet nozzle, cap, induction pipe, high‑pressure manway bonnet and gaskets.
- Use oxy‑acetylene torch to perform burning operations as required.
- Clean dirt, grease, etc. from interior of tank.
- Work with welder on installation of coils as required.
- Set up and operate bending, threading, and cut‑off equipment to shape and fabricate pipe for installation.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as IO instructions, FM instructions, work orders and the AAR Field Manual.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide two‑digit numbers.
- Ability to reason through and plan work details and procedures to obtain desired results.
As of the post date, the salary range for this position is 29.75 USD - 30.35 USD
. The rate for this position is determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Applicants may be eligible to participate in the Attendance (PTO) Incentive and a Safety and Quality Performance Incentive Plan, details of which may be provided upon hire.
