Overview
Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Pre-Admission Testing (PAT) Nurse to join our surgical services team. The PAT Nurse plays a critical role in ensuring patients are thoroughly evaluated, well-prepared, and educated before undergoing surgical procedures. This position requires excellent clinical judgment, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to patient-centered care.
- Perform comprehensive pre-admission assessments, including medical history, current medications, allergies, and anesthesia risk evaluation.
- Review and verify preoperative orders, laboratory results, and diagnostic testing for completeness and accuracy.
- Provide patients and families with clear instructions on preoperative preparation, including fasting, medication management, and day-of-surgery expectations.
- Communicate effectively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other members of the care team regarding patient readiness and any identified concerns.
- Identify and escalate abnormal findings or potential surgical risks to the appropriate provider for further evaluation.
- Document all assessments, patient education, and provider communications accurately within the electronic health record (EHR).
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, accreditation standards, and state/federal regulations.
- Participate in performance improvement and quality initiatives to optimize patient outcomes and care processes.
- Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred.
- Licensure: Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in [State].
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in pre-admission testing, perioperative care, PACU, ICU, or related clinical setting preferred.
- Certifications: BLS required; ACLS preferred.
- Strong clinical assessment and critical-thinking abilities.
- Excellent patient education and communication skills.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work collaboratively within a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in electronic medical records and clinical documentation systems.
