Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Sterile Processing, Surgical Technician & Medical Inventory Specialist to join our surgical team. This multifaceted role plays a critical part in ensuring patient safety, surgical efficiency, and supply chain readiness. The ideal candidate will be flexible, detail-oriented, and capable of supporting sterile processing, direct surgical assistance, and medical inventory management functions.
Key Responsibilities Sterile Processing Duties- Clean, disinfect, and sterilize surgical instruments and medical equipment.
- Perform daily biological and sterilization tests; maintain accurate documentation.
- Organize and distribute sterile instrument sets to appropriate clinical units.
- Isolate contaminated instruments appropriately.
- Support clinical teams during endoscopy procedures as needed.
- Ensure compliance with infection control and safety protocols.
- Prepare the operating room and surgical instruments according to case requirements.
- Assist in patient positioning and prepping for procedures.
- Provide instruments and supplies during surgery based on surgeon’s needs.
- Maintain sterile technique and take corrective action if contamination occurs.
- Clean and reset surgical areas between procedures.
- Count sponges, needles, and instruments per policy.
- Transport and prepare instruments for reprocessing and sterilization.
- Anticipate surgeon needs and demonstrate knowledge of various surgical procedures.
- Observe and uphold universal precautions and patient safety standards.
- Monitor, track, and maintain appropriate inventory levels of medical and surgical supplies.
- Receive, inspect, and restock incoming shipments of sterile and non-sterile items.
- Manage storage systems to ensure proper organization, accessibility, and rotation (FIFO).
- Collaborate with procurement and clinical staff to ensure timely ordering of needed items.
- Conduct routine cycle counts and assist with physical inventory audits.
- Identify expired, damaged, or low-stock items and take appropriate action.
- Maintain accurate records in inventory management systems and supply logs.
- Recommend supply chain improvements based on usage trends and procedural needs.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Certification –
REQUIRED. - 1–2 years of experience as a scrub tech and sterile processing in a surgical/ambulatory care setting.
- Familiarity with surgical supply management and inventory systems.
- Solid understanding of surgical instruments, procedures, and equipment.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Excellent attention to detail, communication, and organizational skills.
- Team player with a commitment to patient safety, quality care, and operational efficiency.
- Must be able to lift 1 to 25 lbs regularly and perform frequent bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and twisting.
- Good visual and auditory acuity required to operate equipment and communicate with staff.
- Must demonstrate hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills for handling surgical instruments.
- Ability to stand for long periods and respond quickly in emergency situations.
