This position will be posted until filled. Street Maintainers perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks using hand tools and operate a wide variety of equipment for the construction and maintenance of the City of Wausau infrastructure.

- Starting hourly rate of $22.78 or higher depending on related qualifications
- Standard hours 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday
- Any work in excess of 8 hours per day is considered overtime (paid at 1 ½ times regular rate of pay)

Single/Tandem/Tri-Axle Trucks with various bodies via a swap loader attachment devise, End Loader and attachments, Steel and Rubber Vibratory Rollers, Leaf Blower, Leaf Pusher, Tar Kettle, Crack Routers, Street and Floor style Sweepers, Brush Chipper, Compressor, Jack Hammer, Concrete Saws, Loader-Backhoe, Centerline Spraying Machine, Snow blower, Asphalt Paver, Steam Boiler, Asphalt Distributor Truck, Chain Saws, Water Pumps and other miscellaneous equipment.
Foster a productive and collaborative work environment by coordinating work efforts with other City departments and employees.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a State of Wisconsin Class A Commercial Driver’s License with N endorsement within nine months of hire.
- Experience in field maintenance and construction work.
- State of Wisconsin Class A Commercial Driver's License.
A skills assessment test with a dump truck and front end loader will be administered to candidates who are qualified to interview for this position.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Knowledge of safe and efficient operation of conventional and specialized vehicles and construction equipment typically used in a municipal public works department.
- Knowledge of the proper methods, tools, materials, and equipment used for the repair and maintenance of street pavements and sewer/structures.
- Availability to be on 24-hour call to respond to emergencies. Must be able to report to job within a reasonable time in such instances.
- Ability to do manual labor which would include being able to frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
- Ability to safely and efficiently operate a variety of construction equipment.
- Ability to cooperate and communicate with other members of the staff, supervisor, and public.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
- Ability to follow directions and complete work and establish priorities.
- Ability to interpret a map.
Employee performs standard activities requiring physical effort. The duties of the job include physical activities such as stooping, kneeling, standing, walking, lifting (lift and carry objects weighing 60 pounds or less, and push or pull objects weighing up to 100 pounds), fingering, grasping, talking, hearing/listening, seeing/observing, bending/twisting (of the neck, back, or torso), reaching, feeling, and climbing. Specific vision abilities required include close, distance, and peripheral vision;
depth perception; the ability to adjust focus; and distinguish objects clearly at 20 inches or less with glasses, if needed.
